B14 Gerhard Marcks Künstlerhaus

B14 Gerhard Marcks Künstlerhaus

Büdnerei B14 is the former home of the famous German sculptor, draughtsman and graphic artist Gerhard Marcks. The more than 200-year-old listed building was extensively restored between 2017 and 2019 and opened as an artists' residence. In this context, close cooperation is being sought with Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. Since August 17, 2019, a cast of the world-famous bronze sculpture "The Caller" by Gerhard Marcks has stood in the garden of the "B14 Gerhard Marcks Künstlerhaus" in the Niehagen district. The artwork gained worldwide fame due to its location in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, where another cast of the sculpture has stood since 1989. The artwork was erected here in memory of Ronald Reagan's visit in 1987, when the American president called out to the world: "Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" The cast of the sculpture now on display in Ahrenshoop was originally intended to find its way to America and be dedicated to the American people, who helped the Germans achieve freedom, unity and peace. The artwork did not make this journey. In a conversation with art collector and dealer Bernd Schultz, whose Schultz-von Schacky family foundation owns the statue, Torsten Frühauf was able to suggest the Baltic seaside resort of Ahrenshoop as a location for the sculpture. The location in the garden of the former artist's studio, where Gerhard Marcks once lived and worked in Ahrenshoop, was convincing, so that the work of art now went on permanent loan to Ahrenshoop. You can find the current opening hours at marcks-kuenstlerhaus.de .

BIOHOF Peitz

BIOHOF Peitz

Since 1934, the family business has been running the farm in the middle of Mecklenburg Switzerland in the third and fourth generation. The Peitz organic farm has been working according to organic guidelines since 1990. Species-appropriate husbandry and the welfare of the cattle are particularly important to the family business. The animals live outdoors all year round, together in a large herd. They eat the lush grass in summer and only the farm's own hay and grass silage in winter, with no performance-enhancing feed at all. This form of husbandry means that the animals are healthy and robust. Suckler cows of the Uckermärker breed are kept. The calves stay with their mothers for at least six months. Once a month, young female cattle that are at least 24 months old are slaughtered. Their meat is slow-grown and therefore particularly tender, juicy and aromatic. The organic meat is vacuum-packed and sold ready to cook in the farm store directly on the farm premises. You have the option of pre-ordering your favorite cuts and picking them up on site, the dates can always be found on the website. Since 2019, organic vegetables have also been grown directly on the farm. They are also sold fresh from the field in the farm store. The self-service farm store is open for you every day from 8:00 to 20:00. In addition to sausage, meat and other organic products from the farm, there is also a selection of products from the region.

Baab bulwark & harbor

Baab bulwark & harbor

The Baabe bulwark is one of the most beautiful natural harbors in Germany and is surrounded by wide meadows that invite you to take relaxing walks. The so-called Bollwerk is located just outside the old village center of Baabe - on the Baaber Bek, the connection between Lake Sellin and Having. It all began in 1889, when the bulwark was raised on the Baaber Beek. After its completion in 1893, the first ships brought people wanting to relax to the village. These were mainly high earners who wanted to recover from the stresses and strains of working life in the dreamy fishing idyll. In summer, sailors moor in the small harbor and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. In addition to pleasure craft, excursion boats also moor in the port of Baabe, and boat tours are offered through the romantic Bodden landscape of the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve and to other ports on Rügen, for example to Lauterbach. In Baab harbor you will also find what is probably the smallest ferry in the world - the ferryman will personally row you to the other side of the Having across to Moritzburg Castle.

With its tranquillity and unspoilt nature, the Baabe Heath invites nature lovers and hikers in particular to leave everyday life behind. Nature shows its most beautiful side here at any time of year: In the fall, mushrooms lure visitors into the woods, while juicy blueberries can be discovered along the hiking trails in the spring. The Baaber Heide was reforested as early as the middle of the 19th century, and today the Mönchgut Forest covers large parts of this impressive landscape.
