Caspar-David-Friedrich-View
📍 Greifswald
To this day, the view that Caspar David Friedrich captured in "Meadows near Greifswald" around 1820 remains almost unchanged. The painting with the silhouette of the Hanseatic city behind lush green pastures hangs in the Hamburg Kunsthalle - but the original scene as Caspar David Friedrich saw it can be recreated here in the middle of nature. Although now hidden due to the buildings and vegetation, it is still clearly visible through the church towers of St. Nikolai, St. Jakobi and St. Marien - Caspar David Friedrich's view as he made the sketch for "Meadows near Greifswald". He viewed the silhouette of the Hanseatic city from a north-westerly direction, roughly where the New Cemetery is located today. The resulting painting is world-famous today and is exhibited in the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The lush green meadows outside the city gates, which still serve as pastures, have not changed. The Ryck makes its way through the greenery. Here you can not only enjoy the peace and quiet and the view, but also go for a walk or a short hike. The best way to experience the life and work of the Romantic painter is on the Caspar David Friedrich picture trail in and around his native town of Greifswald. You can get to know the Hanseatic city from a romantic perspective by bike or on foot in the footsteps of Caspar David Friedrich. There are 15 stations with signposts and information boards where you can follow the artistic and romantic path of the most important landscape painter of the Romantic period and be enchanted by him. Stops along the trail include the birthplace, which today houses the Caspar David Friedrich Center, and the Pomeranian State Museum, where numerous original works by the painter can be viewed.
Caspar David Friedrich Center
📍 Greifswald
The Caspar-David-Friedrich-Zentrum, opened in 2004 in the historic Seifensiederei and expanded in 2011 to include the entire former residential and commercial building of the Friedrich family, commemorates the great painter and greatest son of the city of Greifswald. It is also a museum, documentation and research center. Caspar David Friedrich was born here on September 5, 1774. Visitors can see his father's old soap-making workshop, the family cabinet with the family tree, the Rügen and Eldena rooms with famous motifs from Friedrich's work and the Caspar David Friedrich Gallery. The tour offers comprehensive information on Friedrich's origins, career and creative style as well as on the history of the Friedrich family and their home and business premises, which is also the subject of a long-term research project by the Caspar David Friedrich Society. Changing exhibitions of contemporary art in the Caspar David Friedrich Gallery bear witness to the enduring fascination and impact of Friedrich's work and historical Romanticism. Thanks to its location in the heart of Greifswald's old town, the center is a particularly attractive destination for anyone who wants to follow in the artist's footsteps in his hometown. In the immediate vicinity is St. Nikolai Cathedral, where Caspar David Friedrich was baptized, and it is only a few minutes' walk to the Pomeranian State Museum with its original Friedrich paintings.

Catch tower Greifswald
📍 Greifswald
This building was part of the medieval fortifications that once surrounded Greifswald. The Fangenturm was first mentioned in the town register in 1329 as "Vangentorm". After the fortifications in the area of the Schützenwall were levelled in the 18th century and the Hansering was built in the 1970s, the 13.50-metre-high tower was preserved as a rudiment. Later, when the building no longer met the requirements as a powder tower, the city leased it to the university in 1775, which used the tower as an observatory for a while due to its height and location on the edge of the city. The battlements were not added until the middle of the 19th century, when the Fangenturm was even used as a public toilet. After extensive conservation and renovation work in the 1990s, the harbour master of the museum harbour was able to move into his office on the first floor. He has organizational responsibility for the harbour with over 50 berths, which are reserved exclusively for seaworthy traditional ships.

Museum harbor Greifswald
📍 Greifswald
Gaff-rigged ketch and schooner, seaquat and ram ship, cruiser and dinghy - around 45 old ships characterize the image of the museum harbour in Greifswald, which was founded in 1991 following the example of the museum harbours in Flensburg and Hamburg. This was the Hanseatic city's response to the increased interest in historic ships and traditional seamanship. As part of the old city harbour, the museum harbour stretches from the Steinbeck Bridge to the old granary and characterizes the maritime flair of the Hanseatic city. The oldest ship that visitors can admire in the museum harbour is the Zeesboot "Pommerland" from 1880. www.museumshafen-greifswald.de lists all the ships moored here. 15 of them offer excursions and sailing trips. You can also take part in the annual gaff rigging. Regio - The regional store Anklam
📍 Anklam
Regional...first choice. Range of regional products that are produced and refined in the immediate vicinity of Anklam. The Regionalladen Anklam offers a wide range of regional products from the immediate vicinity of Anklam. Not only can you shop here, but you can also enjoy fresh coffee, delicious cakes and snacks. It's well worth a visit! There are many reasons why it is worth buying regional products. Here are some important points: - The transportation routes of regional food are shorter. This in turn saves a lot of CO2 compared to imported products that have to travel long distances. - Some products also need to be refrigerated during transportation. The shorter the distances, the lower the energy consumption. - Short transportation routes also mean more freshness. The time between harvest and sale is significantly shorter than for imported goods. Taste is also an important aspect of fruit and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables are usually harvested unripe so that they can withstand long transportation routes. The situation is different with regional, seasonal fruit and vegetables. The shorter transportation routes mean they can be harvested when ripe. This makes the fruit and vegetables taste much more intense. - Buying regional food also supports the local economy.
