"The tree treasure of Schuenhagen" - this is the name of the nature trail at the Schuenhagen forestry office, which invites you to discover the forest. Young and old can learn about the tree species of the natural forest in a playful way at various stations. The smallest German eagle, the lesser spotted eagle, still feels at home in the dense forests of the "Nordvorpommersche Waldlandschaft". Here it can raise its young in peace and catch mice and frogs in the surrounding meadows. The Schuenhagen forestry office has been supporting the chance.natur federal funding project "Nordvorpommersche Waldlandschaft" (Northern Pomeranian Forest Landscape) from the very beginning, which has set itself the task of preserving this special animal species and protecting its habitat. This not only helps the rare lesser spotted eagle, but also the diverse natural areas far from the coast of Western Pomerania. In addition to the lesser spotted eagle trail, which provides interesting facts about the lesser spotted eagle's way of life and migratory behavior, a new nature trail behind the forestry office has been available to discover since 2022. In the so-called "Müß" - a natural forest that is left to develop naturally - a path with 7 different stations leads through the world of tree species. The tree spirits of oak and co. are already waiting for your visit! With their many riddles, you may succeed in opening the safe containing the "Tree Treasure of Schuenhagen" at the end. The lesser spotted eagle trail and the nature trail are free of charge, accessible all year round and designed to be exciting for children and adults alike. For the nature trail, simply follow the light blue signpost arrows at the forestry office. You are also welcome to take part in guided tours.
"Kiek in un wunner di" - Museum of Curiosities
Not far from the monastery church is a museum full of rarities and curiosities from the everyday life of the population in the first half of the 20th century. A lovingly furnished museum that invites you to marvel and join in. On a tour of the museum, you can admire an old school classroom, a kitchen, a living room, a children's room and an original cobbler's workshop. There is also a variety of different technical equipment and a presentation of the "history of washing clothes". There is also an exhibition on dental history with an original foot drill from around 1880, a dentist's chair from around 1925 and a wide variety of utensils. Special curiosities include a working Tefifon from the 1950s, an indoor toilet with a sand flush, a water-powered mixer and a bathtub in a cupboard. Touching and trying out is allowed! In the classroom, visitors can try out writing with a stylus on a slate and the Sütterlin script. Various coloring pictures and crayons are available for younger visitors. Of course, they can also play in the children's room. We are happy to accompany our visitors through the exhibition, demonstrate things and explain them. Information on guided tours here.
"Kunsthof" Bad Doberan
● Bad Doberan
Kunsthof Bad Doberan e. V. has been exhibiting art and handicrafts for almost 15 years now. Since November 2009, artists, craftspeople and hobby artists have been gathered here under one roof. Here you will find a particularly large selection and variety of paintings, graphics and handicrafts. The concept of renting exhibition space to artists and craftspeople as well as hobby artists and making it available for presentation and sale has been implemented by a registered association since the beginning of 2021. The costs are shared and the store management is also a joint effort. Incidentally, the association members are themselves creative minds and exhibitors from the Kunsthof team. This means that the "Kunsthof" is both a gallery with free admission and a store. The Kunsthof team can also build on very good cooperation and solidarity with various partners from Bad Doberan and the region, as exhibitors are always allowed to present and sell their work at the partners' stores. Around 40 exhibitors are currently showing their works and handicraft products in the "Kunsthof". Whether painting, graphics, photo and paper art, art prints, ceramics and woodwork or jewelry, object art, textile design and sewn items as well as upcycling - there is something here for every art lover. The Kunsthofverein has written it into its statutes to promote and support artists and artisans and to network them with each other. The association members want to achieve this goal with an art trail specially developed for Bad Doberan from 01.05.2024. In future, not only holidaymakers and spa or day guests but also locals will be able to find and discover art sites, galleries and workshops on this trail. More information can be found on the Kunsthof website. Opening hours: Jan.-Apr.: Thu+Fri 10am-4pm, Sat 10am-4pm, May-Dec.: Tue-Fri 10am-4pm, Sat 10am-4pm

"UNS Riems" museum on the cradle of virus research
● Kowall
One of the most modern research institutes for animal diseases is located on the small island of Riems between Greifswald and Stralsund. Research into bird flu is also carried out here. "UNS Riems" is a regional veterinary history museum and is dedicated to the beginnings of research by the founder Friedrich Loeffler. The museum complements the history of virology and Friedrich Loeffler, which is depicted in the Loefferhaus on the island. It also deals with the development of epidemic research (beyond foot-and-mouth disease) over the past centuries. It depicts the history of research on the island, but also the life and work of the people on Riems and in Riemserort from 1910 to the present day. The exhibition is open every first Saturday of the month from 2 to 5 pm. Guided tours start every hour on the hour. Visits on any other day of the week are also possible by prior arrangement at museum-uns-riems@web.de!
