The Greifswald Caspar David Friedrich Picture Trail leads through the town of Greifswald and the surrounding area. At 15 stations, walkers can discover important places where the painter lived and worked. The journey begins at Lange Straße 57, the birthplace of the painter, and then leads through the historic old town, past the large museum harbor with its many traditional ships to the ruins of Eldena Abbey. At 15 stations, the trail leads through the historic old town, past the museum harbour with its traditional ships to the Eldena monastery ruins - all motifs that Friedrich immortalized in his works and which are still preserved almost unchanged today.

15 stops between the birthplace and the ruins of Eldena Abbey

The circular route begins at the painter's birthplace in Lange Straße and leads through historic Greifswald, a university town in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. If you pause at the viewpoints, you can immediately experience the typical Friedrich atmosphere - that mixture of vastness, tranquillity and northern German landscape that still characterizes the Baltic Sea region between Rügen, Stralsund and Usedom today.
