Pudagla windmill
📍 Pudagla
The Pudagla windmill, first mentioned in 1693, is a restored landmark of the region. Today, visitors can tour the fully functional mill in the hinterland of the Kaiserbäder and take part in regular mill action days, as well as eat fresh bread from the clay oven. The Pudagla windmill, first mentioned in 1693, is an outstanding testimony to the region's mill history. In 1779, master miller Jacob Schmidt bought the mill and all the land from his stepfather for 1000 thalers. The mill had a rye mill and a grist tamper. Until 1810, milling was compulsory, which meant that all farmers in the region had to have their grain milled in Pudagla. Grinding ceased in 1937, but the mill remained in the possession of the Schmidt family until 1986 and was used as a vacation home from the 1960s onwards. In 1996, the municipality of Pudagla took over the mill to save it from decay. After a long struggle for funding, the comprehensive restoration began in 1997. The mill was dismantled into its individual parts, inspected, numbered and restored by the mill construction company Möller in Westphalia. It returned to Pudagla in October 1997 and was ceremoniously reopened on October 25. Since 1998, the mill has been fully functional again thanks to a new grinding gear. Every year, 4 mill action days are held where visitors can experience the impressive mill technology in action. In 2000, a clay baking oven was built, which is also used for these events. The "Friends of the Pudagla windmill" association has been working to preserve the mill since 2001. The most recent renovation projects include the replacement of a pair of sails in 2023 after storm damage. The new mill barn was inaugurated in October 2024. This allowed us to expand the exhibition space and provide our visitors with better weather protection. In addition to daily opening hours from May to October, the association regularly offers project days for school classes and guided tours for groups The Pudagla trestle windmill is an important monument to pre-industrial mill technology and offers visitors fascinating insights into the milling trade of bygone times.
Fort Gerhard in Świnoujście
📍 Świnoujście
Fort Gerhard is one of the most important sights in Świnoujście. The building was constructed in the mid-19th century to protect the harbor entrance. It was designed by Gerhard Cornelius, after whose name the building is still named today. Fort Gerhards is just one part of the Swinoujscie fortress. Alongside the lighthouse, it is one of the most important historical monuments in Świnoujście. It was also the most important facility guarding the entrance to the port of Świnoujście. It is a well-preserved fortress built in the years 1848-1859. The idea for its construction came from the 18th century architect Gerhard Cornelius van Wallrave, who also drew up its plan. He was also the author of the project to extend the fortress in Kłodzko (Glatz). The eastern fort was also named "Fort Gerhards" in his honor. The fort has the shape of an oval two-storey redoubt. It originally had two wings and a drawbridge leading over the moat to the main entrance, an inner courtyard and three towers. Due to its location, the harbor was exposed to direct, regular attacks by the enemy. The fortress was therefore constantly expanded. In 1881, two caponiers were added, i.e. earthworks arranged across the moat, which were used for firing and defending the entrance to the fortress. Two bunkers were built at the southern and northern ends of the fort, which were connected to the inner courtyard of the fort by an underground tunnel. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a narrow-gauge railroad was brought to the fortress and a telegraph line was installed After the war, the fortress was handed over to the city. Initially, camps were set up there. The building was later abandoned. Much changed in 2001. The fortress was leased by a group of enthusiasts who opened its doors to visitors a few months later. One of the most interesting places for living history lessons was created. Visitors to the fort learn about history under the watchful eye of a "Prussian soldier", who shows them around and "drills" them if necessary. In 2001, the Coastal Defense Museum was established in the fortress. It is the largest private institution of its kind in Poland and contains over 2000 exhibits on the development of the Swinoujscie fortress over the last 300 years. In the fortress we can see one of the best preserved artillery galleries in Europe - a series of stone and brick emplacements for 150 and 210 mm caliber coastal guns with preserved artifacts of various gun mountings; a small courtyard with casemates under the artillery gallery; ammunition and powder magazines in the west wing of the fort; two artillery stations and former firing positions for field guns on the southern rampart of the fort above the southern caponier; the wreck of the SDKFZ 7/2 transporter, which was salvaged from the sea near Dziwnów in 2006, on the drill ground. The tour of the fortress takes about 75 minutes, plus additional time for the museum visit. Other similar attractions await military and history enthusiasts in Świnoujście. Three of the four forts built in the 19th century have been preserved to this day. All of them are open to the public.

Ahlbeck pier
📍 Seebad Ahlbeck
The Ahlbeck pier is considered the landmark of the island of Usedom and, like most of the nearby spa architecture villas, dates back to the century before last. Built in 1898, the "centenary" with its red roof, four green towers and 280-metre-long jetty is the only remaining pier of its kind on the German Baltic coast. Loriot also used this very special place for his film "Pappa ante Portas". In addition to a restaurant, it also offers a landing stage for excursion boats. Every year in July, the Ahlbeck Summer Festival and the Long Night of Music take place on the concert square and on Ahlbeck's promenade. Visitors can look forward to various regional and national bands, a fire show, a hands-on circus for children and a historical swimwear show.
Koserow pier
📍 Koserow
The new Koserow pier extends 280m into the Baltic Sea in the shape of a wave. Opened in 2021, it offers 2 large platforms that invite you to sit, enjoy and breathe in the Baltic Sea air. They can also be used as a sunset cinema. There are benches to linger on both platforms as well as on the 280-metre-long bridge itself. At least eight swivel beach chairs will soon be installed on it. The large open spaces can be used as a sunset cinema, but also for smaller concerts. The bridge railing is illuminated with LED strips so that the wooden wave is also an eye-catcher at night. And because the word "experience" unites all the senses, there is a small but fine wine and cocktail bar on the bridgehead in a specially converted Ape to delight the palate and throat. Koserow has also created a link to the Vineta saga. A bell tower was erected on the bridgehead to remind visitors of the legend by ringing the "Vineta" bells on Easter Sunday, which says: "If you are a Sunday child, you can see the town of Vineta rise from the sea on Easter Sunday". The bells originally came from a church in Lower Saxony. However, as many guests had expressed the wish for the bells to ring more frequently, they now ring out every Wednesday at 4 pm following the telling of the Vineta legend. Every bridge needs a little art, says Nadine Riethdorf (Koserow's spa director), referring to the latest addition to Koserow, a statue made of Corten steel. A man with a bell in his hand looking out over the Baltic Sea. Is it a fisherman or the bell-ringer of Vineta - which is better suited to the amber village?
