Altenkirchen Botanical Garden House

The lakeside sermons of Pastor Kosegarten (1758–1818) of Altenkirchen are legendary. A permanent exhibition at the Kosegarten House pays tribute to the life of Ludwig Gotthard Kosegarten. Many events are held at the house each year. The Kosegarten House is a venue for gatherings and events. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to the life of the famous Pastor Kosegarten, who became renowned for his riverside sermons. Among this Romantic’s friends were Friedrich Schleiermacher, Caspar David Friedrich, Wilhelm von Humboldt, and Johann Jacob Grümbke, among others. He maintained a lively correspondence with Goethe, Schiller, and Herder, extolling the beauty of creation and his island. Ernst-Moritz Arndt served as Kosegarten’s private tutor for several years.

Bad Doberan Hospital

University Teaching Hospital of the University of Rostock. For 20 years now, the hospital in Bad Doberan has ensured that visitors to our beautiful region feel well cared for should the need arise. However, many vacationers especially appreciate the peace of mind that comes from knowing they can safely rely on the hospital’s rapid assistance in an emergency. During the vacation and holiday season, patient numbers at the Bad Doberan Hospital’s emergency department rise sharply every year. The team at the 24-hour emergency department is well prepared for this. Last year, a total of 1,500 vacationers and holidaymakers visited the emergency department at the Bad Doberan Hospital; half of them subsequently had to be admitted as inpatients. The scope of responsibilities for the team, which works closely with the physicians in the respective specialty departments, is wide-ranging. This includes, among other things, the collection and compilation of all results—for example, from blood tests, ECGs, ultrasounds, video-assisted endoscopy, X-rays, or computed tomography (CT). The examination of patients is performed by a physician from the respective specialty department. The hospital features a Department of Internal Medicine with an affiliated acute geriatric ward, a Department of General Surgery, Orthopedics, and Trauma Surgery and Urology, and a Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Once a diagnosis has been made, the treatment plan is determined, and initial therapeutic measures may already be initiated. A decision is made as to whether inpatient treatment is necessary or not. If there are many patients in the emergency department, priority is naturally given to treating severe injuries and any emergencies reported by the emergency medical services. The dispatch of ambulances and emergency physicians is already coordinated by the emergency dispatch center. The hospital maintains a so-called trauma room for the care of severely injured patients. With the participation of doctors and nurses from various specialties, the primary focus here is on maintaining or restoring the patient’s vital functions. To this end, the patient is monitored by equipment, ventilated if necessary, and their circulation is stabilized with infusions and transfusions as part of shock management. Furthermore, life-saving emergency procedures can be performed. Additional diagnostic steps, such as CT scans or X-rays, are conducted on-site. Additionally, to better handle emergencies, the hospital grounds feature a dedicated helipad. The emergency department at Bad Doberan Hospital is thus, within the Doberan Network for Health Tourism, literally the safety net that provides medical care to all guests in our vacation region in the event of an emergency.

Wiek chalk bridge

The historic Wiek chalk bridge - a landmark of the municipality and a new, attractive excursion destination on the Wittow peninsula as a "floating promenade". The chalk bridge is located directly in the renovated harbor area of Wiek, between the south and north harbors, and has a formative effect on the entire harbor and townscape. The bridge, which is around 130 meters long and four and a half meters wide, was built in 1914 as a loading ramp for bulk goods, in particular chalk, and was one of the first monolithic reinforced concrete structures in the Baltic Sea region to enable transhipment from rail to ship. Despite its completion, it was never put into operation as intended due to the First World War. The Wieker Kreidebrücke has become a floating, walkable promenade that offers a magnificent view. The bridge is a testimony to the past and has now become a modern tourist attraction. Rügen, and the municipality of Wiek in particular, has been enriched by an excursion destination.

The Gummanz Chalk Museum is located at an original chalk mining site on the island of Rügen. It is housed in the former factory hall of the Gummanz chalk works. In the interactive exhibition, you will learn many interesting and mysterious facts about the geology, fossils and use of Rügen's chalk, while the museum's chalk and nature trail gives you an insight into the technologies of historical chalk mining, informs you about the characteristic flora and fauna of abandoned chalk quarries and offers you a view over large parts of the island of Rügen as far as Stralsund and Hiddensee from the viewing platform on the so-called Kleiner Königsstuhl. The nature trail is approx. 2 km long. Rügen healing chalk is a pure, allergen-free natural product that is extracted from the natural chalk deposits on the island of Rügen. It consists of more than 90% pure calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and has a pH value of 8.5 and more, making it highly alkaline. Rügen healing chalk belongs to the peloids, which are naturally very fine-grained or are crushed and used for mud or paste-like applications. The district agricultural museum in Dorf Mecklenburg offers many opportunities to get to grips with the West Mecklenburg region. The permanent exhibition, which was completely redesigned in 2011, focuses on the recent history of rural development. The museum is located in Dorf Mecklenburg. This is where the Slavic castle once stood, which gave the village and ultimately the state its name. Large-scale technology can be seen in the spacious open-air exhibition. The museum hall houses a permanent exhibition and special exhibitions, a service area and sanitary facilities. A tour takes visitors on a journey through regional history from 1820 (the abolition of serfdom in the Duchy of Mecklenburg) to the recent past.

Pommerland Herb Garden

The Pommerland Herb Garden is located in Pulow in Western Pomerania. On an area of about three hectares, wild and cultivated herbs such as lemon balm, peppermint, lady’s mantle, hyssop, elderberry, strawberries, currant bushes, and Damask rose are grown, harvested, and processed by hand. These and other organic herbs are processed into 29 different types of large-leaf teas and 2 varieties of syrup, which are available for purchase in our small office shop or in our online store. In the summer, we regularly offer guided tours of the herb garden and the tea production facility. You can find the dates on our website.

Kröpeliner Gate

The Kröpeliner Gate is one of the 22 city gates that once formed part of Rostock’s medieval city fortifications. The Gothic gate was first mentioned in 1280. It originally consisted of two stories and was expanded in the 15th century to its current height of 54 meters. Since May 2005, the Geschichtswerkstatt Rostock has been using the gate for exhibitions, events, and themed city tours. Visitors can also obtain information about the city here and enjoy a beautiful view of the city wall from above.

Ball fountain

Fountain on the Neuer Markt The fountain is one of the best-known works of the recently deceased craftsman Franz Poppe: an artist of the town of Waren (Müritz). The popular fountain (erected in July 2003) on the Neuer Markt was designed by the Waren ceramicist. In summer, the ceramics family's "Müritzwasserhaus" invites interested visitors to Gerhart-Hauptmann-Allee to view the art in the garden by the Müritz.

Landow Cultural and Pilgrimage Church

The church in Landow on the Kubitzer Bodden—a cultural and pilgrimage church. The Landow church, first mentioned in 1333, was abandoned as a place of worship about 30 years ago, as the small parish of Landow was unable to maintain the building during the GDR era, and church construction was made difficult or even impossible by political circumstances. The entire interior, including the wooden ceiling, was dismantled; some parts were moved to other churches, while others were lost. Nevertheless, the church possesses a distinctive, somewhat forlorn charm and a special atmosphere in its idyllic seclusion. Since 2000, the parish has once again been using the village church for worship services and as a “cultural and pilgrimage church.” In 2000, the Evangelical parish of Samtens founded the “Friends of the Landow Church” association and has since regularly organized the “Landow Music Summer” with great success. Thanks to the dedication of artists in the 1980s and the support of the Friends’ Association, the church’s deterioration was halted, and extensive renovations were carried out in 1994 and 2002 to preserve the building’s structural integrity.

Benz Cultural Mill

Historic Dutch windmill (built in 1818) with a largely preserved and intact interior. Visitors can trace the process from grain to flour and other grain products using the old machinery. In the bakery, hikers and visitors will find the perfect place to take a break with coffee and cake. The Benz Cultural Mill, built starting in 1818, is the last surviving Dutch-style windmill on the island of Usedom. With its typical eight-post construction and three half-timbered floors, it impressively showcases the miller’s craft and traditional technology. The mill remained in operation until 1972, after which milling operations ceased with the death of the last miller, Werner Jahnke. Prior to that, around 1935, the mill had been converted to electric power, with the main shaft replaced by gear transmissions. The mill has become known beyond the country’s borders as a subject of the German-American artist Lyonel Feininger. In 1910, Feininger drew the Benzer Dutch windmill in charcoal; today, this is the only known depiction of the mill from the time it was powered by wind.  In 1973, the mill was acquired by the renowned painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, who used it as a studio and exhibition space. Thanks to his efforts, the structure was preserved and secured as a technical monument. He initiated urgent preservation work, such as re-shingling the roof with beech shingles. After Niemeyer-Holstein’s death in 1984, the mill was transferred to the municipality of Benz. With the founding of the “Kulturmühle Benz e.V.” association, the mill was developed into a cultural gathering place. The mill underwent extensive renovation in the 2000s, during which the cap, the wind rose, and the exterior cladding were replaced. Today, the mill attracts tourists as well as history and technology enthusiasts alike; guided tours are available upon request. In addition to its impressive historical technology, the mill grounds also offer a place to relax, and visitors can enjoy regional delicacies in the bakery.

Cultural Park Neubrandenburg

One of the few newly created, significant parks in the former GDR. The park is a listed building and was created between 1968 and 1982. Very popular for leisure and sports and equipped with various sculptures. The city park as the central green space is a listed building. The Jahnsportforum, the most modern hall complex for sporting and cultural events in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, has been located in the Kulturpark on the idyllic Lake Tollensesee since 1996.

Art in the Bobbin manor house

International artists present paintings and art of various genres. Paintings of various styles and poetry will be exhibited in the manor house, while Chinese martial arts and sculpture await many visitors in the park and on the terrace. The Ukrainian artist Inna Goerlt, who will be explaining her painting techniques and creating a new work on site, is still known to many from previous years. As last year, Ute Barnick will be exhibiting paintings and collages. There will also be poetry by Hans-Jürgen Steinert, which will inspire reflection and philosophizing. Katja Gauger brings us closer to the modern side of art with collages and paintings. Handmade sculptures can be found in the park. A Tai Chi group will also be demonstrating Chinese martial arts here. The circle of artists is completed by Gabriele Lenkeit, who is presenting the newly created Egyptian Hall this year. Here you can marvel at Egyptian-inspired wall and ceiling paintings. As in previous years, new works of art will be created directly on site. Inspired by each other, the artists enjoy working together. The classicist manor house dating back to 1825 provides a worthy setting for this year's exhibition. Look over the artists' shoulders and talk to them about their works over a glass of Prosecco or juice. Enjoy a tour of the manor house and its park.
