The exhibition “First German Meter Museum” was staged at the “Pfundgrube Gutshaus Rambow.” The exhibition “First German Meter Museum” was organized at the “Pfundgrube Gutshaus Rambow.” The prototype meter (French: mètre des archives, “archive meter”) was the physical standard for the unit of length “meter” that was in use until 1960. We do not display the Protometer rod itself, but rather a variety of chronometers, barometers, thermometers, hygrometers, and the very rare bierometers. The narrative church is a project of the Sietow parish and the Center for Church Services with support from the Tourism Fund. Coming to rest, being heard, being able to listen. Church open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Luther Exhibition 2017: “Here I Stand—Origins—Lifestyle—New Beginnings—Outlook”; Evangelical Lutheran Church, built after the church fire of 1870 on what is now Kirchberg in Feldberg. Built in the historicist style between 1872 and 1875 in Feldberg, this cruciform brick basilica was designed by J. W. Richards. The 54-meter-high tower is visible from afar. The altarpiece features paintings of the “Ecce Homo” by Georg Kannegießer of Neutsrelitz. Incidentally, the Luzin Canal, which connects Haussee Lake with the Breiter Luzin, was constructed as a result of the church’s construction in Feldberg. Transporting the bricks, which were manufactured at the brickworks in Lichtenberg on the Breiter Luzin, was much easier and faster by water. During the summer months, the church is open to visitors.

"Ribnitz Great Moor" Nature Trail

The nature trail winds its way through one of Germany’s most interesting coastal raised bogs. The Ribnitz Great Moor is a restored raised bog that spans an area of 274 hectares between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden. The primeval-like alder swamps and pine bog forests are home to the blood-red dragonfly, the otter, and the crane. Spring is a particularly colorful time here. During mating season, male moor frogs glow a brilliant blue to impress their chosen mates. Numerous information signs along the trail also provide details about rare plants such as sphagnum moss, sundew, cotton grass, royal fern, and cranberry.

Freelance metal designer Michael Schimmel lives and works in Kalkhorst on the Baltic coast. In a rustic half-timbered forge opposite the castle, Michael Schimmel produces individual pieces to his own design or to order, mainly for customers from the region: "Everything here is 100% handmade," says Michael Schimmel. "The art of damask forging dates back to the 4th century. At that time, the aim was to combine poor, brittle steel with flexible iron in order to obtain a homogeneous, elastic and hard steel." The high-quality knives are all unique, the mixture of metals leaves an unmistakable pattern on the blade. Michael Schimmel also produces fittings and jewelry, garden sculptures and lamps: "I work with natural materials in all shapes and sizes: stone, wood and even bones or teeth in addition to metals." His wife Catrin Freuschle takes care of selling the products in her producer gallery for handicrafts at Lübecker Straße 3 in Klütz (April to October). The contact with nature, the wide view over the Baltic Sea is an elixir of life for Michael Schimmel: "Creative development is my main focus.
