The Ribnitz Great Moor is a restored raised bog that spans an area of 274 hectares between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden. The primeval-like alder swamps and pine bog forests are home to the blood-red dragonfly, the otter, and the crane. Spring is a particularly colorful time here. During mating season, male moor frogs glow a brilliant blue to impress their chosen mates. Numerous information signs along the trail also provide details about rare plants such as sphagnum moss, sundew, cotton grass, royal fern, and cranberry.
