The Eggesin Half-Timbered Church is one of the most interesting historic religious buildings in northern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Built in the first half of the 18th century, it continues to shape the townscape of the small town of Eggesin in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. It thus joins the multitude of historic church buildings that characterize this region between Greifswald, Usedom, and the Vorpommern coast.
History of the Church: Renovations and Rebirth as a Community Center
In 1902, the church’s originally pointed bell tower had to be demolished due to dilapidation. A good decade later, in 1913, the building was renovated and thoroughly refurbished. After a long period without regular use, the half-timbered church has found a new purpose since 1994: Since then, it has once again served as a community center and for worship services, making it a vibrant hub for the Eggesin community.

This nature park is located in the north-east of the country, in the direct vicinity of the Republic of Poland. It is characterized above all by the natural unspoilt sections of the lagoon coast as well as lagoon meadows, wide forest complexes of the Ueckermünde Heath, the Uecker and Randow lowlands and the Brohmer Berge. The visitor information center is located at the train station in Eggesin. The idea of the nature park was born in the district of Uecker-Randow in the fall of 2001 by committed employees and representatives of local authorities. The "Am Stettiner Haff" Nature Park was founded in 2003. Six people work in the nature park. Mr. Elberskirch as manager and Mr. Dinse as deputy mainly in the office as well as four rangers (Ms. Kroschwald, Mr. Henke, Mr. Fleck and Mr. Schuldt) who work primarily in the nature park area. All employees work primarily in the areas of nature conservation, nature-friendly tourism and public relations as well as regional development and environmental education. Since August 2012, the nature park has been based at the train station in Eggesin, where a modern visitor information center with a small café area has also been built. Under the direction of the town of Eggesin and with the help of EAFRD (LEADER) and urban development funds, two historic station outbuildings were renovated and connected to a functional new building. Here, visitors can get an overview of the nature park and its special features with the help of a modern interactive exhibition and then explore the nature park region equipped with information material. Nature lovers and stressed city dwellers will find the peace and quiet they long for, even in the high season. Drechslerei Rose in Eggesin manufactures high quality turned parts from wood for staircase construction, interior fittings or furniture making to order. High-quality handicrafts, mostly made from local wood or required for restoration, have been traditionally turned by hand for over 30 years. The woodturning craft has been recognized throughout Germany as intangible cultural heritage since the end of 2018. Master woodturner Karina Ihlenburg has been cultivating this beautiful, old craft in the blueberry town of Eggesin for over 30 years with a great deal of love and skill. The Rose woodturning workshop, which has been in existence since the late 1970s, mainly manufactures products for staircase builders, joineries and high-quality interior fittings. Whether series or individual pieces, customers from all over Germany order from the master workshop. The arts and crafts sector and thus traditional production on the wood lathe is not neglected either. In addition to bowls in all shapes and sizes, the salesroom at the workshop in Heidestraße also sells wool pots, crochet hooks, nutcrackers, bottle tops, writing utensils, mortars, tins and, above all, the much-loved decorative apples and pears. Anyone who values high-quality local products is well advised here. Two regular events throughout the year are worth mentioning: One is the sales exhibition as part of KUNST:OFFEN on the Whitsun weekend. This takes place in the tranquil village of Hintersee in the gallery in the barn. It is open from 10:00 to 18:00. In addition to the products from the master workshop, a farm café with homemade cakes, bread, tea and coffee will be open on all three days. A tombola invites you to take part. The second is a small Advent market with an open day organized by the Rose woodturning workshop in Eggesin. You are cordially invited to visit the workshop on the Saturday before the third Advent from 13:00 to 17:00.
