Botanical Garden "Mecklenburg Switzerland"
📍 Moltzow
The botanical garden contains 300 perennials and 400 woody plants. In addition to the plants, sculptures by various artists, 100 roof tiles from historic buildings from all over Europe and 70 cobblestones from historic streets and squares are displayed on 2 hectares. The botanical garden in Rambow contains 300 different perennials and 400 woody plants. The birch collection with 25 different species is one of the most important in Mecklenburg. The woody plants include a cross-section of species and continents. The individual woody plant families such as beech, maple, lime, chestnut, etc. have 12 to 18 species. There are 4 to 5 species per family. The garden is in bloom from spring to fall. It starts with Japanese cherry (3 colors), forsythia (2 colors) and continues with chestnut (3 colors), fruit tree blossom, lilac (8 forms), roses (20 species), water lilies (10 colors), ornamental shrubs (15 species) and hardy hibiscus (11 colors). The roses then conclude with their second bloom. In 5 small raised bogs, the diversity of bog flora is shown with pitcher plants, sundew, orchids and typical bog trees and shrubs. The two bog-forming mosses are shown in a basin. The 100 m² show garden offers the possibility of partial self-sufficiency. It includes 2 raised beds, a herb bed, apple tree, white sweet cherry, white currant, gooseberry, yokeberry, mountain ash and a greenhouse. The greenhouse can be used as a hobby in the form of a cactus collection and the cultivation of vegetable plants. Next to the greenhouse is a small raised bog with orchids and a rock garden with hardy cacti. The show garden demonstrates that it is possible to combine a hobby and the supply of fruit and vegetables in a small area. It is intended to provide inspiration and encourage an exchange of ideas.
Rostock Botanical Garden
📍 Rostock
The Botanical Garden is a scientific institution of the University of Rostock for research, teaching, education about the importance of biological diversity and the conservation of rare plant species. It is also available to the public as a source of information and a green oasis. Around 7,000 plant species are cultivated biologically in scientific departments, biotope facilities, greenhouses and a university garden on the 7.8-hectare monumental site. The open-air grounds The outdoor area of the Botanic Garden contains the following main areas: The systematic department and the associated arboretum scientifically group around 2500 plant species according to their phylogenetic relationship and bear witness to the progress in the evolution of the plant kingdom, which has taken place on various development paths over many millions of years. The morphological-biological section focuses on a wide variety of plant formations based on around 350 species, which fulfil certain vital functions in adaptation to environmental conditions and can be characterized as plant functional types. Here, the role of plant organs in ensuring survival and reproduction is the trigger for the development of very diverse, but also astonishingly similar building plans in different plant groups. In the official section, over 200 species used as medicinal, healing, spice, dyeing, fiber and technology plants are grouped according to their ingredients and corresponding uses. The section on the history of useful plants in north-east Germany presents around 60 plant species that have been introduced to the area of today's north-east Germany from the Neolithic period onwards and have been used to a significant extent. In other areas of the garden, the biotope areas, the plants are allowed to grow naturally. The requirements of the location and interactions with each other are the decisive factors here. In addition to the dune and intermediate moor, the spring moor and wet meadow, dry sandy grassland, beech forest and alder swamp as well as the stream and three ponds reflect the importance of the ecological habitat for the development of diversity in the plant kingdom. In the Alpinum you can see how the complex of extreme environmental factors in the high montane and subalpine stages on acidic and alkaline weathering parent rocks has produced peculiar and very colorful adaptations, which also show interesting similarities in systematically very different groups. Around 1500 species are housed here. Smaller areas include the Japanese garden, a collection of evergreen species and a bedding area with protected native plant species. A so-called university garden, an area for garden therapy and a bee information garden are run by external partners. The greenhouses The greenhouses contain collections (around 1000 species) of tropical useful and rainforest plants, subtropical species from various deserts and semi-deserts around the world, and Mediterranean species from four continents. The geographical focus is on the Old World (Palaeotropics) with Africa, Madagascar and the Canary Islands. Special collections include a number of desiccation-tolerant vascular plants and carnivorous plants, which are the focus of research projects. All greenhouses in the Botanic Garden are primarily used for university teaching and research and are not structurally equipped for large and sustained visitor traffic. We ask for your understanding that they can therefore only be opened to the public on Tuesdays to Thursdays during the working hours of the greenhouse gardeners and during the Sunday guided tours.

📍 Marlow
Would you like to try our own Marlow beer? Or refined meat and fish dishes or burgers? Our brewery right next to the Recknitz Valley Hotel Marlow is open for you every day. The brewery "Zur alten Fassfabrik" is not only a name that ties in with old traditions and Marlow's history, but has also become a piece of enjoyment in the region. From 1891 to 1948, the old barrel factory and the sawmill of the merchant Carl Kossow and his partner, the master cooper Levermann, were located on the neighboring property. At that time, production consisted mainly of barrels for butter and herrings. Today, barrels are still needed, but not made of wood and not for dairy products and fish, but for delicious beer. We brew 6 types of beer in our own brewery: Marlower Pils, Marlower Dunkel, Marlower Spezial, Marlower Bockbier, Marlower Hefeweizen and Marlower India Pale. All varieties are brewed by our brewer in accordance with the German Purity Law and tapped fresh from the tap or bottled exclusively in 0.5 liter bottles. The unfiltered beer is now known beyond the borders of Marlow and is an insider tip among beer connoisseurs. So take the opportunity to visit and see the high quality for yourself! Brunnenaue Stralsund
📍 Stralsund
The Brunnenaue in Stralsund is a small idyllic park with a large fountain. First mentioned in 1630 as a healing spring, the city park of the Biedermeier period is a simple park with play and sports areas. Around 1848, merchant Ernst H. F. Billich expanded it into a park with arbors, new paths and trees. Remains of the original park still exist despite the modernization in the style of the 1970s. Rare tree and shrub species, such as the bald cypress, were planted here and still grow today. The tranquil atmosphere and idyllic landscape make the Brunnenaue a popular recreational area for locals and tourists alike. The fountain in particular, with its large fountain, is a popular meeting place in summer. The many seats surrounding the fountain and numerous park benches along the paths through the park invite you to linger. The fountain bubbles after the chestnut blossom around Easter in spring, summer and fall and then goes into its winter break in October.
Fountain meadow in Sagard
📍 Sagard
The Gesundbrunnen Sagard was once a spa and bathing establishment in Sagard on the island of Rügen. Opened in 1795, the bathing and leisure establishment made Sagard the first bathing resort on Rügen and established a spa business, which operated until around 1830. A small wood near Sagard is called "Brunnenaue". It is a reminder of eleven years of lively spa and bathing life. Pastor Heinrich Christoph von Willich opened Rügen's first spa here in 1795. An area with several springs was laid out as a picturesque park. Paths led along the stream with small waterfalls and past seating areas and arbors. There were play tables and a carousel, swings and seesaws, and you could also try your hand at bowling. Various hot and cold baths were set up in the bathhouse for a medical therapy program. Music and dance events rounded off the visit. Today, little remains of the time between 1794 and 1806, when hundreds of guests came here in the summer for treatment and relaxation. Only the field name "Brunnenaue" has remained. The small wood with the meandering stream still gives a vague idea of this brief era.
Dömitz bridge monument
📍 Dömitz
The bridge memorial in Dömitz is a monument to the reunification of Germany. Firmly anchored on an imposing pedestal, a segment of the old Elbe bridge near Dömitz commemorates the division of Germany, which lasted more than forty years. The road bridge, which connected Mecklenburg and Lower Saxony before the Second World War, was destroyed during an American air raid in the final days of the war. It was not rebuilt during the Cold War. On December 18, 1992, a new bridge over the Elbe was inaugurated at the same location. It was the first new bridge to be built over the former border river after the collapse of the GDR and has since been regarded as a symbol of reunification. At the junction of the B 191 and the B195, approximately one kilometer behind the eastern abutment of the Elbe bridge, is the bridge memorial, which consists of a relocated pillar and several meters of superstructure from the old bridge.
Hans-Hilmar Koch Museum of Letterpress Printing
📍 Krakow am See
In the climatic health resort of Krakow am See, visitors will find the only museum of the art of letterpress printing in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and what's more: since 1998, visitors have been able to experience a family business from the early 20th century up close in the show workshop, where they can touch and participate in letterpress printing. Note: Currently closed due to renovation work. Courses are still possible at the Schwerin site. The letterpress printer and typesetter Hans-Hilmar Koch has fulfilled his dream here, in the beautiful building of the old school: "Letterpress printing with movable type, as the letterpress process is also known, is the most important cultural achievement of mankind! I want to pass on this knowledge in the digital age. The sensual handling of paper, color and shapes, writing and words is being lost today." However, anyone who experiences first-hand how texts are still set in the traditional way using lead and wooden type and how they are printed on old letterpresses will gain a new appreciation of the high value of books as a cultural asset. Lovers of fine papers and high-quality commercial graphics can also place individual orders: Hans-Hilmar Koch produces printed graphics, family or business stationery through to calendars and printed napkins on the historical machines. In workshops, children and adults can learn about papermaking, lead typesetting, letterpress printing and bookbinding and produce their own printed matter such as business cards or greetings cards. Those who want to work artistically are introduced to the techniques of experimental linocut in the printmaking course. The Museum of Letterpress Printing is currently closed due to renovation work. Courses are still possible at the Schwerin location.
