Roof tile exhibition in the "Mecklenburg Switzerland" botanical garden
📍 Moltzow
From Schwabach to Schwerin, from Cologne to Berlin, roof tiles, slate, copper, zinc and lead tiles from 100 historic buildings from all over Europe. The permanent exhibition "Roof tiles" is located in the botanical garden "Mecklenburg Switzerland". The exhibition features 100 roof tiles from historical buildings from all over Europe. All types of roof tile are on display: Slate, copper, zinc and lead tiles from churches and secular buildings. Highlights include wooden shingles from the Goslar stave church and a gilded roof tile as used on the Schwabach town hall. Modern roof tiles are also on display. Roof tiles in a different use complete the exhibition. These are roof tiles in the form of oil paintings and relief tiles with images of historical personalities. The reliefs were handmade in the 1970s by the Lauterbach roof tile factory in Vogelsberg as wall decorations.
Permanent exhibition "Model railroads from 150 years"
📍 Moltzow
150 years of model railroading - 15 dioramas, display cases and model railroad panels show the development of model railroading from its beginnings to the present day. A model train is a scaled-down (scale smaller than one) replica of parts of a "large" train. The classic toy trains were already being built on a larger scale at the beginning of the 20th century for the nominal size 1 in 1:32 and 0 in 1:45. Well-known manufacturers included Bing and Märklin. It is typical that the locomotives can drive themselves thanks to a built-in drive. The size ratio between the model and the prototype (for example 1:87) is referred to as the scale, whereby common scales are each assigned a letter/number abbreviation (T, Z, N, TT, H0, 0 etc.; order starting with the largest reduction in size). The most common scales are - T, 3mm M 1:480 - Z, 6mm M 1:220 - N, 9mm M 1:160 - TT, 12mm M1:120 - H0, 16mm M1:87 - 0, 32 mm M1:45 - II, 64mm M1:22.5). The exhibition will feature 15 dioramas, showcases and model railroad plates in these gauges. There are also plans to build a G-gauge garden railroad in 45 mm. This scale reproduces a narrow-gauge railroad with an original gauge of approx. 1200 mm. Please telephone or register by email before visiting.
Permanent position "400 sheets of BEP (butter wrapping paper) in the Heimatstube Rambow"
📍 Moltzow
The Heimatstube Rambow is perhaps the only museum to display 400 sheets of butter wrapping paper from 25 countries. The exhibition is complemented by 10 historical butter churns, 30 old butter molds, milk churns of various shapes, emergency banknotes and stamps, of course all related to butter. The 400 sheets are housed in eight folders. To enjoy the entire collection, you need time. But here you can experience a museum in a different way. You are offered music in a wide variety of styles and a few slices of butter to accompany your favorite drink. Then you can immerse yourself in the creativity of graphic artists from different countries. What everyone overlooks when eating butter every day is revealed here. Butter is a spreadable fat that people have been using ever since they started milking cows for food. Butter is made almost exclusively from cow's milk. Weihenstephan is one of the oldest dairies in the world and has been in existence for almost 1,000 years. With this collection, the Heimatstube Rambow aims above all to convey the effort and expense required to get a piece of butter on the table. Operator Peter Ramsch used to make butter by hand with a butter churn on his grandmother's farm as a teenager and therefore knows the effort involved. The exhibition is complemented by 10 historic butter churns, 30 old butter molds, milk churns of various shapes, emergency banknotes and stamps, all related to butter, of course. If you are interested, please register by telephone or e-mail. PS: The Heimatstube displays a total of 14,000 exhibits, including 1,300 salt and pepper shakers, 1,800 minerals, 750 types of sand from 130 countries and much more.
