Roland Wolff | "Ship Variations and Objects" Gallery in Kronsberg

Ships stir our longing and imagination; they carry our dreams to new shores. "Roland Wolff—Ship Sculptures" My artistic focus is on creating unique ship sculptures. I carefully carve the shape of the ship from various types of natural wood. In doing so, I primarily use found pieces from my immediate surroundings—pieces of wood in which the shape is often already somewhat recognizable. Through careful craftsmanship, I give each ship its own character and an unmistakable personality. After working in carpentry shops, elderly care, and museum technology, I have been working as a freelance wood artist since 2004. Ever since then, the theme of “ships” has repeatedly captivated me and inspired me to create new objects. Ships tap into our longing and imagination; they carry our dreams to new shores. This feeling resonates with many people. In addition to my ship-themed objects, I also create woodblock prints featuring maritime motifs. I often use multi-printing techniques that involve various printing blocks and colors. I present my work—both objects and prints—annually in exhibitions in northern Germany. I live and work in Beughorst, Kronsberg, on the edge of the Barther Stadtwald. Here I find the peace and space I need for my creative work. My workshop and a small exhibition space are located on my property. I would be happy to welcome you by appointment to experience my work in person.

The tent is accessible via a paved, wheelchair-accessible entrance and wheelchairs can be exchanged for a beach and water-suitable wheelchair. This makes it possible for guests with limited mobility to take part in beach life and swim in the shallow waters of the Bodden. The location has been carefully chosen next to the beach bar and close to the DRK rescue tower. Disabled parking spaces are available at beach exit 4. The Rollicamp is also directly accessible via the shore path from the pier. Use of the service unit is free of charge for guests with a valid spa card. The keys for the Rollicamp are available at the tourist information office.

Rookhus

The smoke house in Göhren was built around 1720, making it one of the oldest buildings on the island. The Rookhus was popularly known as the "Sugar Loaf" due to its low-pitched cane roof. The "Rookhus", built around 1720, is a true architectural gem of great rarity with its low-pitched cane roof - popularly known as a sugar loaf. After all, this picturesque little half-timbered house is one of the oldest houses and the last remaining chimneyless smokehouse on Rügen. The smoke emanating from the open hearth escaped through the plank door and the openings in the roof ridge. The museum provides a vivid insight into the simple living and working conditions of small farmers and fishermen who lived in the house with their tools and livestock in a very small space under one roof. A Biedermeier ornamental garden and an exhibition on fishing on Mönchgut complete the presentation.

Rose Garden Rostock

The Rostock Rose Garden is located between the Steintor and Schwaansche Straße and runs parallel to Wallstraße. Around 1860, the garden architect Joachim Wilcken designed today's rose garden - an elongated, flat area with an avenue of lime trees, rose beds, lawns and fountains. The tranquillity, the beguiling scent of the roses and the twittering of the birds entice even many Rostock residents to take a relaxing stroll.

There is no inductive hearing system. The alarm is clearly audible throughout the building.

Rostock Heath

No German city or region has a larger contiguous coastal forest than Rostock. The Rostocker Heide covers approximately 6,000 hectares and stretches directly along the Baltic Sea coast from Markgrafenheide to the Baltic Sea resort of Graal-Müritz. In 1252, Prince Heinrich Borwin III sold the Rostock Heath forest area to the city of Rostock. With a total area of over 6,000 hectares, it is Germany’s largest contiguous coastal forest. Over the past centuries, this forest has undergone countless changes. Today, the Rostock Heath is not only essential for sustainable timber management and effective nature conservation but also a unique recreational area for hiking and biking. It boasts a diverse array of flora and fauna, and the mild, invigorating climate—a blend of Baltic Sea and forest air—provides ideal conditions for a healthy and rejuvenating stay. On the discovery trail and the thalassotherapy trails, you’ll discover the natural wonders—both big and small—of the local forests. Since 1996, the entire Rostock Heath has been a landscape conservation area. It is also part of the European NATURA 2000 network of protected areas, which includes approximately 3,500 hectares of forest as the “Forests and Moors of the Rostock Heath” protected area (FFH site). The Rostock Heath is also home to the nature reserves Radelsee, Heiligensee/Hütelmoor, and Schnatermann. Since 2000, the management of the Rostock Heath by the City Forestry Office has been certified according to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®). This certification is a globally recognized seal of quality for wood products and forest management, based on compliance with ten internationally binding principles and criteria. The Rostock Heath, together with the Vorpommern Bodden Landscape, is one of Germany’s 30 biodiversity hotspots. The area encompasses a unique, diverse coastal landscape.  Colorful Flora: The Rostock Heath provides ideal living conditions for a large number of plant and animal species. Its forested areas consist of 45% coniferous species (including pine, spruce, larch, fir, and Douglas fir) and 55% deciduous species (including beech, oak, birch, and alder). In total, there are currently 19 different conifer species and 44 different deciduous tree species in the Rostock Heath. In contrast, approximately 700 ha of the Rostock Heath consist of bogs, reed beds, and meadows. Particularly noteworthy are the presence of yew, holly, the carnivorous sundew, and numerous orchid species in the flora. The “Sandacker” in Hinrichshagen is a unique feature. The area is a field flora reserve and is one of only three sites in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania where endangered field flora species have a refuge and are not facing extinction. Rare wild plants such as lady’s mantle, rye brome, sand poppy, as well as chamomile and cornflowers grow there undisturbed. Diverse Wildlife: In addition to martens, foxes, and badgers, the heath is home to roe deer, fallow deer, and wild boar, as well as red deer, which depend on large, contiguous, and as undisturbed as possible habitats. With a little luck and patience, you can spot not only these animals but also white-tailed eagles, gray herons, cranes, and kingfishers. The same goes for the diverse insect life in the forest and open areas. Far more elusive are the thirteen bat species that live in the Rostock Heath.

Rubenow Monument

The Rubenow Monument is the centerpiece of Rubenowplatz and depicts important representatives of Greifswald's university history. At a height of 12.10 meters, it is the largest free-standing cast zinc monument in Germany. It is made of galvanized copper-plated zinc and stands on a dark red polished granite base. The neo-Gothic style is reminiscent of church spires from its time, which can be seen in the towers of the nearby churches of St. Jakobi and St. Nicolai.

Ruins of the Augustinian Monastery

● Jasienica

With the arrival of the Augustinian monks in this region, the monastery was built in the 13th century. Following the Reformation, the building lost its religious function in the 16th century and fell into ruin. Its remains can be visited today. The ruins represent one of the most beautiful examples of medieval monastic architecture in Western Pomerania. They owe their existence to the Augustinian Order, whose monks settled in this area in the mid-13th century. They began reclaiming the previously barren wetlands and regulated the flow of the Gunica River. They built a mill, raised sheep and pigs, cultivated hops, and operated several inns. By the end of the 13th century, they also owned a wooden church, which they later expanded. The monastery itself was built in the 14th century and consisted of two two-story wings and a church, creating an inner courtyard open to the west. The original Gothic complex, including the outer walls of the south and east wings up to the first floor and a vaulted cellar, has been preserved to this day. With the Reformation in the 16th century, the Jasenitz monastery was secularized. From the end of the 17th century onward, it fell into increasing disrepair. In the mid-20th century, the upper floors were demolished. Today, the grounds of the ruins and the church are well-maintained and structurally secured. The interior of the ruins is overgrown with bushes and other wild plants, but the grounds and the ruins can be visited and explored. The preserved window arches and arcades are impressive testaments to the style in which the monastery was originally built. Part of it can be viewed from the outside, while the other part is accessible from the churchyard. The picturesque setting is often used as a backdrop for photography on a wide variety of occasions. For several years now, an Augustinian market has been held around this complex at the end of the summer vacation season. This medieval market is intended to keep the memory of life in those days alive. More recently, a reenactment of the Entombment of Jesus has been held on Holy Saturday. The church is easy to find from the street, as it sits on a small hill, while the monastery ruins themselves lie slightly lower down in its shadow.
