Pfennigkasten - Megalithic Tomb in Stubnitz

The "Pfennigkasten" megalithic tomb lies hidden in the beech forests of Stubnitz. The path to it is signposted along the hiking trail from the Hagen parking lot to the Königsstuhl. The east-west-oriented, incomplete burial chamber of this large dolmen—typical of Rügen and featuring a vestibule—measures approximately 4 x 1.50 m. On one of the capstones, the remains of which are located in the immediate vicinity, approximately 20 carved cup marks were discovered. According to legend, the “Penningkist” is said to have served as a receptacle for offerings made to the goddess Hertha or her priests.
