Rügen Bridge
● Stralsund
Although the new Rügen Bridge is not a historic monument, it is a significant landmark of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. After a three-year construction period (August 2004 to October 2007), the Rügen Bridge was opened at the end of 2007 by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Construction costs totaled approximately 125 million euros. With a total length of 4,097 meters (2,831 meters of which is the bridge structure), the three-lane bridge connects Germany’s largest island to the mainland. It relieves traffic on the Rügendamm, which had previously been the only connection to the island. At peak times, the Rügendamm handles a daily traffic volume of 30,000 vehicles. The two pylons of the cable-stayed bridge stand 127.75 meters tall and, together with the curved shape of the span, resemble a sailing yacht. Furthermore, as Germany’s tallest cable-stayed bridge at 42 meters, it provides an ideal clearance height for international shipping traffic.

SEGELART - Sailmaker & Tent Manufacturer
● Kirch Kogel
In this small, traditional sail-making workshop, fabric scraps from old sails are used to create bags and everyday items. Take a tour of the workshop and enjoy coffee and cake. "SEGELART" is a young sail-making workshop that combines modern ideas with traditional craftsmanship. The focus here is on functionality, aesthetics, and attention to detail. With passion, the workshop creates not only sails and tarps but also tents and sunshades of all kinds. The manufacturing process almost always results in offcuts and fabric scraps that are far too good to throw away. With the “Mit allen Wassern gewaschen” bag collection, these scraps—along with old sails or tents—are recycled, breathing new life into them. In this way, we not only contribute to sustainability, but each individual piece also tells a story of adventures on land or at sea.

STRALSUND MUSEUM St. Catherine's Monastery
● Stralsund
CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO CONVERSION The first museum in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund was founded in 1858 and opened a year later as the "Provinzialmuseum für Neuvorpommern und Rügen". It is also the oldest museum in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Exhibitions on prehistory and early history, urban history, folklore and naval history are presented in three listed buildings. The most beautiful and at the same time most valuable exhibit is the gold jewelry from Hiddensee found in 1872-74. Founded in 1858, the museum is housed in the former Dominican monastery of St. Katharinen in the heart of the listed old town. Two gold treasures from the Viking Age can be admired here, of which the gold jewelry from Hiddensee is not only legendary, but also world-famous. Artistic Stralsund faience invites you to look and marvel, as do rare medieval ecclesiastical vestments. Many other highlights tell of the eventful history of the once so influential city on the Sound, of which it was said in the Middle Ages "...that it was a pearl in the crown of the Hanseatic League...". The largest and most beautiful room in the monastery is the summer hall. This magnificent hall impresses with its wonderful architectural design, which also includes a medieval vault painting. A wide variety of exhibits await visitors on the 1st floor. In addition to craft scrolls, seals and craftsmen's silver, there is above all magnificent furniture from different eras on display. Tableware made of glass and porcelain as well as household items made of copper and brass give an idea of the past splendor of bourgeois parlors. A special highlight are the astronomical and nautical instruments from the collection of Axel Graf von Löwen, who, as Governor General of Swedish Pomerania, bequeathed his unique collection, which also includes art objects of all kinds, to Stralsund in his will in 1761. Legend Stone at Lake Hertha
● Sassnitz
The so-called “Sagenstein” is located not far from Lake Hertha. Near Lake Hertha stands the so-called “Sagenstein,” on which, according to legend, the footprints of an adult, a child, and a hare or dog are imprinted. The legend itself tells of the trial of a maiden who was to be sacrificed to the pagan gods. However, the “Sagenstein” was actually erected by an enterprising innkeeper at Königsstuhl, who presumably created this additional “attraction” in the 19th century.
