Welcome to Schlling's fish house! The Fischhaus Hafenkater is located in the middle of Vitte harbor. Here (almost) everything revolves around the catch of the Hiddensee cutter fishermen. The small fish house is located in front of the larger restaurant. This is where the delicious fish sandwiches are freshly filled with unique recipes and golden fish & chips are baked. Homemade from Baltic cod. The sunny terrace offers a direct view of the hustle and bustle of the harbor. The owner is Mathias Schilling, who has already made a name for himself in Schaprode on Rügen with Schillings Gasthof and Schillings Fischhaus and as a cattle farmer on the family-owned island of Öhe.

One of the best-preserved hospital complexes on the southern Baltic Sea coast. Along with the hospital in Lübeck, the Heilgeist Hospital is one of the best-preserved hospital complexes on the southern Baltic Sea coast. The oldest part of the hospital is the Heilgeist Church. It dates back to the early 15th century. The small, four-bay hall church has a straight choir apse and features a Baroque altarpiece from around 1770. In addition to the west portal, which leads to the waterway, the church has an east portal as well as two doors on the east gallery through which one enters the so-called church corridor. It is formed by two parallel, two-story wings that were added to the church around 1645 and served to house the sick, the infirm, and the elderly. The passage is closed off to the east by a gate that separates the church passage from the rest of the hospital. In 1680, a gallery was built into the church corridor, which served as the model for the colonnade of City Hall. Before 1945, the Heilgeistkirche served as a garrison church and is now used as a place of worship for the St. James parish. The restored church corridor has been converted into apartments.

The exhibitions in the Mönchgut Museum of Local History deal with life on Mönchgut from its tangible historical beginnings to the more recent past. In the Mönchgut Museum of Local History in Göhren you can discover life on the Mönchgut peninsula from its beginnings to the recent past. It is housed in a cane-roofed, listed building, which was built around 1850 as a farmer's, fisherman's and pilot's house. In 1963, it passed to the municipality of Göhren and has served as a local history museum ever since. On display are prehistoric and early historical finds, geography and geology of the peninsula as well as the historical development of Göhren from its beginnings as a small fishing and farming village to the third largest Baltic seaside resort on the island of Rügen. The local history museum is one of the cultural attractions on the island of Hiddensee. Redesigned a few years ago, the permanent exhibition provides a comprehensive and vivid account of life on the island. An insight into life on the island The Hiddensee local history museum is located directly on the west beach of Kloster. It was built around 1890 as a sea rescue station, but for almost 70 years now the old rescue equipment has only been part of the museum. In the permanent exhibition, which was redesigned a few years ago, visitors of all ages can find out how hard the islanders' lives used to be, how seafaring and fishing shaped everyday life, but also how quickly tourism reduced their worries and brought many prominent guests to the island. The most valuable exhibit in the exhibition is a replica of the Hiddensee gold treasure. The original of Germany's largest Viking gold find is in the possession of the Stralsund Museum. A small highlight of the museum visit for many guests is the "Amber Room". The extensive collection of the amber fisherman Ingolf Engels contains wonderful pieces and shows very nicely how diverse the "gold of the Baltic Sea" can be. The Duke's Grave in the Mönchgut Forest

The “Duke’s Tomb” in the Mönchgut Forest is one of the many megalithic tombs preserved on the island of Rügen. Investigations in the 1920s, as well as the systematic excavation conducted in 1960 by Dr. Ingeburg Nilius of the Department of Prehistory and Early History at the University of Greifswald at this Funnel Beaker Culture megalithic tomb, yielded a wealth of artifacts. These include amber beads, the remains of approximately 50 ceramic vessels, stone axes and adzes, and cross-cut arrowheads, as well as skeletal remains of at least 20 individuals. In the “Herzogsgrab” (Duke’s Tomb), a large dolmen with a vestibule and a trapezoidal burial chamber, evidence of a later burial from the Bronze Age was found.
"Woorker Berge" Burial Mounds

The "Woorker Berge" burial mounds are part of a large burial necropolis located between Patzig and Woorke. This well-preserved and very impressive group of burial mounds—comprising a total of 13 mounds, some of which are still 6 m high—is located between Patzig and Woorke. This burial necropolis most likely dates back to the Early Bronze Age, a period when it was common in this region to conduct tree-coffin burials beneath mounds. For this purpose, oak trees were split lengthwise and hollowed out to accommodate the body and grave goods within the cavity. The coffin was placed on a bed of stones and completely covered with earth. The mound itself was usually further reinforced with a stone ring and a layer of rolled stones that covered the entire burial mound. However, very little of this remains visible today. "Schwarze Berge" Burial Mound Field near Ralswiek

The burial mound field in the “Schwarze Berge” near Ralswiek comprises over 400 burial sites from the Slavic period. The “Schwarze Berge” near Ralswiek is home to Rügen’s largest burial mound field. The more than 400 burial sites from the Slavic period, most of which have been archaeologically investigated, extend over an area of approximately 400 x 700 m. The necropolis appears to be the burial site for the dead from the lake trading center of Ralswiek across the lake—presumably the oldest permanently settled place on Rügen. Numerous finds from the burial ground attest to extensive trade with Northern Europe and the Orient. Hüningsbusch - Megalithic Tomb near Seelvitz

The "Hüningsbusch" megalithic tomb is located in the southeastern part of the island of Rügel, along with numerous other megalithic tombs. The “Hüningsbusch,” a megalithic tomb near Seelvitz, belongs to the Funnel Beaker Culture type of large dolmen with a vestibule. The tomb is surrounded by other megalithic tombs, all of which are located in a region rich in megalithic tombs in the southeastern part of the island of Rügen. One of the damaged capstones, as well as a wall stone, revealed several small bowls on the surface. The 1970 excavation conducted by Adolf Hollnagel revealed that the burial chamber of the east-west-oriented, trapezoidal megalithic tomb had been severely disturbed. Several finds, such as amber beads, axes, cross-cutters, and other flint tools, as well as pottery shards, bones, and a hand millstone, were uncovered from the burial chamber. Vilm Island

Vilm, the small sister island of Rügen, which is only a few hectares in size, is known for its gnarled oaks and sunrises, which captivated Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge. They walked the island together and wrote letters to Goethe about its beauty. Around 6,000 years ago, the 94-hectare island of Vilm was formed from moraines left behind by glaciers. It is still an untouched natural paradise today. Forests of ancient oaks and giant beeches characterize the landscape. The beginning of settlement on Vilm can be traced back to the Stone Age. Once a holy place of the Slavs, later a Christian pilgrimage site and medieval hermitage, a princely summer residence in the 19th century and soon after a meeting place for landscape painters - Vilm has always exerted a great attraction. This is probably most evident in painting. Over the last 200 years, the island has been visited by over 350 painters. The entire island has been a nature reserve since 1936. Guided tours of Vilm Island take place from the end of March to the end of October. Daily at 10 a.m. and a second guided tour from 1.30 p.m. if required. The starting point is the port of Lauterbach. The motorboat "Julchen" will take you to the island of Vilm. The excursion leads partly through rough terrain and covers a distance of 3 kilometers. The outward and return journeys take 15 minutes each. The guided tour lasts 2.5 hours. The participation fee must be paid in cash and on the day of the tour on the motorboat "Julchen". Payment by EC card is not possible. Important: Unauthorized access to the island and taking animals with you is prohibited. Due to the limited number of participants, pre-registration is essential.

The Lachmöwe cabaret theater in the Baltic seaside resort of Baabe is the only cabaret stage with a permanent ensemble in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and one of the few unsubsidized theaters in Germany. The Lachmöwe was founded in 2004 and has developed into the address for cabaret and satire on the island of Rügen. On the one hand, the house ensemble performs changing political-satirical programs with a high entertainment value and a lot of enthusiasm, on the other hand, well-known greats of the cabaret scene are always guests on the stage of the small cellar theater. St. Annen and Brigitten Monastery

The house, dedicated to St. Anne, was handed over to the Order of the Augustinian Sisters by Hans Bure in 1480. The chapel has been restored and is open to the public since 2007. After the last nuns of the Brigittine convent in Mariakron died in 1560, the extensive lands were assigned to the St. Anne Foundation. This led to the establishment of the St. Anne and Brigittine Convent on Schillstraße. That same year, it was also decided that the convent would serve as a home for destitute widows and unmarried women from the upper middle class. The chapel was likely built in the courtyard at the beginning of the 16th century. In 1842, as part of urgent renovation work, the convent received its own organ from master organ builder Buchholz. The most recent renovation took place from 2003 to 2007. Since then, weddings have also been held in the chapel.

The gate to Stralsund’s Old Market. The city’s northern gate is one of what were once 10 city gates. The Kniepertor was first mentioned in a document as early as 1293 and was named after an influential family of citizens who were active in the Hanseatic city during the thirteenth century. It is the northernmost of Stralsund’s original ten city gates. The rectangular structure, with its low tower and a pointed-arch passageway, took on its present form in the 15th century. Today, only the inner gate remains, as the outer Knieper Gate and the gatekeeper’s house were demolished in 1874 to improve traffic flow. Knieperstraße connects the Old Market with the Knieper Gate. A memorial stone and a commemorative plaque on the side of the gate facing the city honor Friedrich Gustav von Petersson, a comrade-in-arms of Ferdinand von Schill. The Knieper Gate is a designated historic monument and is part of the Brick Route in Stralsund.

Many events are held at the house each year. The Kosegarten House is a venue for gatherings and events. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to the life of the famous Pastor Kosegarten, who became renowned for his riverside sermons. Among this Romantic’s friends were Friedrich Schleiermacher, Caspar David Friedrich, Wilhelm von Humboldt, and Johann Jacob Grümbke, among others. He maintained a lively correspondence with Goethe, Schiller, and Herder, extolling the beauty of creation and his island. Ernst-Moritz Arndt served as Kosegarten’s private tutor for several years.
