Hüningsbusch - Megalithic Tomb near Seelvitz
The "Hüningsbusch" megalithic tomb is located in the southeastern part of the island of Rügel, along with numerous other megalithic tombs.
The “Hüningsbusch,” a megalithic tomb near Seelvitz, belongs to the Funnel Beaker Culture type of large dolmen with a vestibule. The tomb is surrounded by other megalithic tombs, all of which are located in a region rich in megalithic tombs in the southeastern part of the island of Rügen. One of the damaged capstones, as well as a wall stone, revealed several small bowls on the surface. The 1970 excavation conducted by Adolf Hollnagel revealed that the burial chamber of the east-west-oriented, trapezoidal megalithic tomb had been severely disturbed. Several finds, such as amber beads, axes, cross-cutters, and other flint tools, as well as pottery shards, bones, and a hand millstone, were uncovered from the burial chamber. Hüningsbusch – Megalithic Tomb near Seelvitz, close to Zirkow
The Hüningsbusch near Seelvitz is a significant megalithic tomb in the southeastern part of the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is a so-called large dolmen with a vestibule dating from the Funnel Beaker Culture—one of the characteristic tomb types of this Neolithic era. The trapezoidal megalithic tomb is oriented east-west and is situated in the midst of a landscape rich in megalithic tombs, which is one of the archaeologically densest regions on the German Baltic Sea coast.
Archaeological finds from the burial chamber
During an excavation in 1970 led by archaeologist Adolf Hollnagel, it became apparent that the burial chamber had been severely disturbed. Nevertheless, remarkable finds came to light: amber beads, stone axes, cross-cutters, and other flint tools, pottery shards, bones, and a hand millstone. Additionally, bowl-shaped indentations—known as “small bowls,” which are also found at other megalithic sites on Rügen—were visible on a destroyed capstone and a wall stone.

The "Teufelsstein" megalithic tomb is located not far from the "Hüningsbusch" megalithic tomb near Seelvitz. Near the “Hüningsbusch” megalithic tomb lies the “Teufelsstein” megalithic tomb. The tomb, which has a severely disturbed burial chamber, belongs to the group of large dolmens with a vestibule typical of Rügen. On the clay soil—which in turn lay on a bed of pigeon-egg-sized flint pebbles—sections composed of individual stone slabs set vertically were identified. Only a few Neolithic finds, such as two hand millstones, some pottery, and an amber bead, were recovered from the burial chamber. A sandstone grinding slab was used as a threshold stone. Another distinctive feature is the three small bowls attached to the surface of the keystone.
