The Barth Bible
📍 Barth
A very special Bible that was printed in Barth in 1588. At that time, the language spoken in this region was Middle Low German, and the Barth Bible is written precisely in this language. Duke Bogislaw XIII was the one who commissioned the printing of this Bible. Around 500 copies were printed and the Bible itself is a real work of art with beautiful woodcuts. Today, the Barth Bible is an important cultural asset and can be admired in various museums and libraries. There is even a Bible center in Barth itself, where you can learn all about the history of this special Bible.

The Saale Apostle Stones
To this day, it is a magical place to which visitors and locals alike make a pilgrimage: cowslips, buttercups and ash trees point the way to the Saale stone circle. Hidden deep in the Saal forest is a circle of 13 apostle stones. The stone circle consists of unevenly sized stones, some of which are arranged somewhat irregularly. Some of them have already fallen over. The temple is not far away. Is there a connection? In fact, it is a place of worship from the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. To this day, it is a magical place to which guests and locals alike like to make a pilgrimage: cowslips, buttercups and ashes point the way to the Saale stone circle. They stand like apostles in the green spring forest, while the particularly colorful beech leaves rustle in autumn. Here a breeze, there a ray of evening sun, birdsong, gifts from visitors on the tree table, a walking stick leaning against the tree, warmth ... a magical place ... after work, vacation. The place is well hidden. Discover the enigmatic stones on a guided tour with the nature and landscape guides from the Southern Bodden Coast Tourist Office and listen to regular stories about the beauty of the woods and meadows along the way (May-September). On your own: The stone circle in the forest area south-east of Kückenshagen can be reached via the Saaler Straße "Kolonie", which leads to the edge of the forest. In the forest, turn left for approx. 420 m, then left at the wooden sign "Apostelsteine" to the small bridge on the right, which leads over a ditch. Follow the path lined with tree trunks, cross a short footbridge (be careful not to slip) and walk through the forest to the stone circle. (The navigation system helps!)

Behrenhoff village church
The church in Behrenhoff, built between the late 13th century and 1415, is an impressive example of North German brick Gothic architecture. Particularly noteworthy are the unique medieval wall paintings in the choir, which were uncovered in 1897. Built in the Middle Ages, the church in Behrenhoff was originally a three-nave, three-bay brick basilica with buttresses. The choir was added at the beginning of the 14th century. The church underwent several structural changes over the following centuries. Worth seeing in the interior are the eight-part ribbed vault with paintings (15th century), wall paintings from the 14th century, including depictions of saints and the Fall of Man, the Last Judgement with the dragon from hell, the Coronation of Mary, John the Baptist and the twelve apostles.
Brohm village church
The village church of Brohm is an early Gothic fieldstone church with Baroque furnishings The church in Brohm is a hall building with a recessed rectangular choir in carefully executed fieldstone masonry from the late 13th century. The east gable of the chancel features a blind gable in brickwork. A barrel-vaulted sacristy is attached to the north of the choir. The building is accessed via an ogival stepped portal to the west and south. There is also a smaller priest's door on the south side of the choir. The portals in the south are decorated with profiled transoms and incised drawings. The chancel wall has a group of three windows in a screen. The other windows were probably enlarged in the 15th century. Although the pointed arches on the portals and windows and the date of origin suggest that the building is Gothic in style, this can only be considered a rough categorization for such rural-archaic buildings. In 1716, the church was fitted with a half-timbered roof tower with a tent roof, which was reduced to the belfry in 1949. The interior of the building was also redesigned in the Baroque style around 1716. A stuccoed mirror vault with scrollwork decoration and allegorical figures as well as a ceiling painting with angels and the eye of God above an illusionistically painted balustrade were installed in the choir, while the nave was fitted with a wooden barrel vault depicting the Ascension of Christ.

Swing bridge island town Malchow
The approximately 15-metre-long new building is a landmark of the town and opens every hour on the hour to allow ships sailing on the Müritz-Elde waterway to pass through. Around 20,000 boats or ships pass through this narrowest point between Lake Plau and Müritz every year. The landmark is also a pivotal point on land: it connects the historic island of Malchow with the mainland. The moving story: In order to ensure a further connection to the mainland in addition to the earth dam, a lift bridge was initially erected, which had to make way for a manual, wooden swing bridge in 1863. Due to increased traffic during industrialization, this model was also replaced by a steel structure in December 1912. After more than 30 years, this bridge was destroyed in the Second World War and not rebuilt until 1948/49. During this time, traffic was carried by ferry. The bridge, which was powered by an electric motor for the first time, continued to fall apart until 1980. After ten years of closure due to severe damage, a functional swing bridge was reopened on December 12, 1990. In September 2012, work began on the complete renovation of the swing bridge and foundations. After almost a year of construction, the project was completed in 2013. In 2014, the new swing bridge was awarded the public prize and a commendation for the 2014 State Construction Prize.
