Colorful parlor
📍 Ahrenshoop
It has been a cultural meeting place for artists and art lovers for 100 years. Literature lovers can choose from a well-stocked collection, especially from the genre of regional literature. The Bunte Stube was founded in June 1922 by Martha Wegscheider and the painter Hans Brass. With its striking red and white design by Bauhaus architect Walter Butzek, the small store developed into an important building in Ahrenshoop in 1929. Today, books, handicrafts, jewelry, natural products and the art cabinet dominate the offer.
Viewing platform Grenzweg
📍 Ahrenshoop
Viewing platform on the border path The viewing platform on Grenzweg in Ahrenshoop is a very special place of peace and space. From here, the view opens up over the gently rolling dune landscape, the beach and the glistening water. The atmosphere is particularly beautiful when the wind softly blows through the grasses and seagulls circle around - then time seems to stand still for a moment. It invites you to stop for a moment, enjoy nature and leave everyday life behind. Whether for a short break during a walk, to take photos or simply to take a deep breath - this viewpoint shows the quiet beauty of Ahrenshoop in a particularly beautiful way.
B14 Gerhard Marcks Künstlerhaus
📍 Ahrenshoop
Büdnerei B14 is the former home of the famous German sculptor, draughtsman and graphic artist Gerhard Marcks. The more than 200-year-old listed building was extensively restored between 2017 and 2019 and opened as an artists' residence. In this context, close cooperation is being sought with Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. Since August 17, 2019, a cast of the world-famous bronze sculpture "The Caller" by Gerhard Marcks has stood in the garden of the "B14 Gerhard Marcks Künstlerhaus" in the Niehagen district. The artwork gained worldwide fame due to its location in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, where another cast of the sculpture has stood since 1989. The artwork was erected here in memory of Ronald Reagan's visit in 1987, when the American president called out to the world: "Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" The cast of the sculpture now on display in Ahrenshoop was originally intended to find its way to America and be dedicated to the American people, who helped the Germans achieve freedom, unity and peace. The artwork did not make this journey. In a conversation with art collector and dealer Bernd Schultz, whose Schultz-von Schacky family foundation owns the statue, Torsten Frühauf was able to suggest the Baltic seaside resort of Ahrenshoop as a location for the sculpture. The location in the garden of the former artist's studio, where Gerhard Marcks once lived and worked in Ahrenshoop, was convincing, so that the work of art now went on permanent loan to Ahrenshoop. You can find the current opening hours at marcks-kuenstlerhaus.de .
