The historical adventure trail "Slavic castle ramparts" takes visitors on a journey of discovery into the past. Siblings Jela and Jano take visitors on a journey of discovery into the time of the Slavs on the adventure trail in the Dargun recreational forest. On various boards, the two show how they lived and worked over 1000 years ago. There are many interesting things to learn about agriculture, crafts and trade, war and immigration as well as religion, mythology and, of course, the castle itself. The half-timbered church of Neuenkirchen

The half-timbered church in Neuenkirchen dates back to the Middle Ages. The parish church was built in the 14th century under the patronage of the Hilda monastery in Eldena. Worth seeing are medieval gravestones and remains of the wall and vault paintings with Low German minuscule inscriptions, the organ (1836) and stained glass windows on the east gable of the church building. This building was part of the medieval fortifications that once surrounded Greifswald. The Fangenturm was first mentioned in the town register in 1329 as "Vangentorm". After the fortifications in the area of the Schützenwall were levelled in the 18th century and the Hansering was built in the 1970s, the 13.50-metre-high tower was preserved as a rudiment. Later, when the building no longer met the requirements as a powder tower, the city leased it to the university in 1775, which used the tower as an observatory for a while due to its height and location on the edge of the city. The battlements were not added until the middle of the 19th century, when the Fangenturm was even used as a public toilet. After extensive conservation and renovation work in the 1990s, the harbour master of the museum harbour was able to move into his office on the first floor. He has organizational responsibility for the harbour with over 50 berths, which are reserved exclusively for seaworthy traditional ships.

The fishing village of Freest is located directly at the mouth of the Peene to the Greifswald Bodden and is home to the largest fishing port in MV. Every 5th fish in MV is caught here, mostly herring, flounder and cod. The oldest smokehouse in Western Pomerania is also located near the harbor. From May to October, guests can take the ferry to Peenemünde on the island of Usedom every hour. Bicycles can also be taken on board. The harbor was renovated with EU funds between 1995 and 2005. 26 fishermen's huts were erected on the quayside. A functional building with sanitary facilities was part of the overall project. It also houses a branch office of the pilots and the German Maritime Search and Rescue Association. Adjacent are restaurants serving fish, ice cream and coffee and cake. Converted fishing boats take visitors out on the Bodden and to the island of Ruden. A bicycle and pedestrian ferry takes visitors to the island of Usedom and back. The Historical-Technical Museum in Peenemünde is well worth a visit. The Freest fishing festival takes place every year in August. You can buy fresh fish directly from the fisherman in the early morning or enjoy it on site in one of the restaurants, which offer both traditional and more unusual fish specialties. You can also gain an insight into typical regional crafts by visiting the Freest boatyard and the local museum. Freest fishing carpets The Freest fishermen's rugs, also known as "Persians of the Baltic", are a traditional handicraft product from Pomerania that was woven by women and children in fishing villages as an additional source of income, particularly during the global economic crisis of the 1920s. Each rug is unique and consists of thousands of hand-knotted knots. Like Caspar David Friedrich, he also passed through the fishing village of Freest, presumably during his honeymoon. Fishing played a major role here: salt huts, smokehouses and fishing nets still characterize this place today.

A 14th-century Gothic gabled house, featuring a preserved house tree and an original pulley wheel in the attic. The 14th-century gabled house was restored through a private initiative between 1974 and 1976 and returned to its original condition. Inside, the house tree—which serves as a load-bearing element—and the original hoist wheel in the attic have been preserved, among other features. In 1687, a Baroque gallery was added to the entrance hall. As with all gabled houses of this type, the entrance hall opens onto the courtyard through a large window known as a “Lucht.” The wide stepped gable deserves special attention. Today, the building is occupied by the person who initiated the extensive renovation.

Redesigned in the 17th and 18th centuries, the Gothic gable—which had been altered in the Baroque style—underwent a partial renovation in 1968–69.In the lower part of the facade, the Gothic structure of the facade can be seen through two exposed windows, complemented by a sandstone slab from 1608 that originally came from the house’s cornice. During extensive renovations in 1994 and 1995, remnants of the medieval paintwork and sculptural decoration were discovered.

The Greifswald Gate in Grimmen was built around 1350 and is one of three gates that still exist in Grimmen. Built between 1350 and 1400, the Greifswald Gate was part of the town's medieval defenses. It was severely damaged by a lightning strike around 1800. Somewhat smaller and less ornate, the late Gothic brick building was rebuilt due to a lack of funds. The Greifswald Gate was extensively renovated in 1980.
Megalithic Tomb Near Posewald

The "Blocksberg" megalithic tomb is located right along the road near Posewald. On the road from Lonvitz to Zirkow, north of the village of Posewald, lies the "Blocksberg" megalithic tomb, a so-called large dolmen with a vestibule. Originally, the tomb had three capstones, of which only one remains in its nearly original position—sunken into the chamber. The other two stones lie in the immediate vicinity: one at the edge of the mound, the other still buried in the ground. Among the Neolithic graves is a well-known megalithic tomb (Site 2 in the Pastitz Forest) located along the railroad line from Bergen to Putbus. Despite traces of stone-cutting teams, the dolmen and its surrounding stones are still well-preserved here. Originally, the tomb—a large dolmen with a vestibule dating from around 3000 B.C.—had a burial chamber with four capstones, two of which are missing and one of which has slipped into the chamber. At the presumed megalithic tomb, Site 51, in the Pastitz Forest, the surrounding stones have also largely been preserved. However, the burial chamber is not yet visible above ground in the flat, elongated mound. It is therefore questionable whether this structure is in fact a megalithic tomb.
