Villa Auguste - Malchow, the Island Town

Villa Auguste - Malchow, the Island Town

Malchow

Today, “Villa Auguste” is a day care center for seniors, but the building was originally a private residence. Leather manufacturer Julius Steinlein (1855–1925) had the villa built between 1902 and 1904 in the neoclassical style and named it after his wife, Auguste Steinlein. In addition to its prominent corner location, the property also features two impressive stained-glass windows with floral designs in the foyer. Steinlein drew inspiration from villas in major German cities. When Auguste Steinlein died in 1947 and her last surviving relatives renounced their inheritance, the villa became the property of the town of Malchow in 1958. It was then initially used for public purposes, first as the “Workers’ Clubhouse” and, starting in 1990, as the “Haus der Jugend” youth center. Finally, in 2014–2015, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation, restoring its historic appearance. After the work was completed, the building was taken over by Malchower Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH and reopened as the “Villa Auguste” day care center. To achieve this, a stairwell had to be added and several rooms had to be adapted. The outdoor area surrounding the fountain statue “Nereid with Putto,” which had been destroyed by vandalism, was also restored.

Lütt Holthus Forest Museum

Lütt Holthus Forest Museum

Feldberger Seenlandschaft

The Lütt Holhus Forest Museum is a small, hands-on forest discovery center that shares interesting and informative facts about local forests and their flora and fauna. This small forest discovery center offers visitors insights into the plant and animal life of our forests. By trying things out for themselves—smelling, hearing, and feeling—visitors retain many things better in their memory and may be able to rediscover or discover them anew in the forest. Opportunities for this include the forest pharmacy, sound and touch boxes, a “walk-through fox den,” and more. A camera allows visitors to observe the pair of storks living at the forestry farm as they nest and raise their young. Outdoors, visitors can explore a Harz-style hut, a lumberjack’s wagon, and a mini-nursery. The museum is an ideal starting point for hikes to the Heiligen Hallen and the Paradiesgarten. Guided tours are available by appointment. The museum’s offerings are complemented by rotating special exhibitions, a small shop selling books, maps, souvenirs, and game products, as well as a vending machine. Hours: May–Sept. 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., closed Mondays; Oct. + April 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m., closed Sun./Mon.; Admission: €2.00 / €1.00

Waren thermal brine

Waren thermal brine

Waren (Müritz)

Waren (Müritz) has been a recognized brine spa since 2012. Waren's thermal brine is used in a variety of ways at the spa center on the Nesselberg. This is extracted from an underground "sea" at a depth of 1550 meters in the geothermal plant on the Papenberg. Balneological reports by the Fresenius Institute have confirmed that Waren's thermal brine meets the criteria for natural healing water and is therefore entitled to bear the designation "iodine-containing thermal brine". There are particularly promising treatment options for skin diseases, respiratory diseases and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The iodine-containing thermal brine is the basis for the "Waren bath salt". This makes it possible to use it at home. The salt is available in various packs on site at the Waren (Müritz) Information Office or by mail order from the Waren public utility company.
