Lütt Holthus Forest Museum

Feldberger Seenlandschaft · Mecklenburgische Seenplatte · 53.3362° N, 13.3788° E
Lütt Holthus Forest Museum

The Lütt Holhus Forest Museum is a small, hands-on forest discovery center that shares interesting and informative facts about local forests and their flora and fauna.

This small forest discovery center offers visitors insights into the plant and animal life of our forests. By trying things out for themselves—smelling, hearing, and feeling—visitors retain many things better in their memory and may be able to rediscover or discover them anew in the forest. Opportunities for this include the forest pharmacy, sound and touch boxes, a “walk-through fox den,” and more. A camera allows visitors to observe the pair of storks living at the forestry farm as they nest and raise their young. Outdoors, visitors can explore a Harz-style hut, a lumberjack’s wagon, and a mini-nursery. The museum is an ideal starting point for hikes to the Heiligen Hallen and the Paradiesgarten. Guided tours are available by appointment. The museum’s offerings are complemented by rotating special exhibitions, a small shop selling books, maps, souvenirs, and game products, as well as a vending machine. Hours: May–Sept. 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., closed Mondays; Oct. + April 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m., closed Sun./Mon.; Admission: €2.00 / €1.00

Lütt Holthus Forest Museum in the Feldberg Lake District

The Lütt Holthus Forest Museum in the Feldberg Lake District is a small forest discovery center that introduces visitors of all ages to the local forest and natural world in an entertaining way. The focus is on hands-on experiences: sound and touch boxes, a forest apothecary, and a walk-through fox den invite visitors to explore the flora and fauna of Mecklenburg’s forests with all their senses.

Stork Camera, Outdoor Area, and Special Exhibitions

A camera allows visitors to watch the stork pair living at the forest farm as they nest and raise their young—a special experience that children especially love. Outdoors, visitors can explore a Harz-style hut, a lumberjack’s wagon, and a mini-nursery. Rotating special exhibitions and a mini-shop offering books, maps, and game products round out the offerings. An art vending machine adds the perfect finishing touch to the visit.

Starting point for hikes to the Heiligen Hallen

The museum is an excellent starting point for hikes in the immediate vicinity, such as to the Heiligen Hallen and the Paradiesgarten—two natural history highlights of the Feldberg lake landscape. Guided tours are available by prior arrangement. The region is located in the southeastern part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, making it a worthwhile addition to trips to the Baltic Sea coast, such as to Stralsund, Greifswald, or the island of Rügen.

Feldberger Seenlandschaft

On secluded paths and trails I will take you to the most beautiful places in our magnificent landscape, where you will discover old post roads, mysterious ruins, hidden lakes, crumbling bridges, old oak avenues and enjoy wonderful views. most walks take about two hours and are also suitable for children (from about 5 years), the elderly and the inexperienced. On my short hikes, we explore old post roads, abandoned ruins, hidden lakes, flowering meadows with old fruit trees, impressive oak avenues, crumbling wooden bridges.... Breaks at beautiful places are planned, certainly with swimming opportunities in summer. Most of the tours are between 5 and 8 km long and are easy to manage for anyone who enjoys exercise. You can find more detailed information about the individual hikes on my website www.naturnahwandern.de and in the event calendar of the tourist information office. There and on various notices you will find the current dates (usually 2 to 3 hikes per week) and meeting points. You are also welcome to book hikes with me for small and larger groups and organize them according to your wishes.
