St. Mary's Church Ribnitz

The town church of St. Marien with its massive tower is visible from afar and dominates the townscape. It is a brick building from the 13th century. . It was immediately rebuilt and furnished in the Baroque style (altar and pulpit). At the beginning of the 1980s, the interior of the church underwent further changes: a winter church was installed and the half-timbering in the nave was exposed. The tower (49 meters high, 214 steps) is accessible and the viewing platform offers a beautiful view over the town of Ribnitz and its surroundings. If visibility is good, the towers of Rostock can be seen with the naked eye. Organ concerts and exhibitions are held regularly during the summer months. Construction of the three-aisled hall church began during the city's founding period. Remains of the late Romanesque architectural decoration of the first church are preserved in the form of a round arch frieze on the west side of the nave and in the paired lancet windows. Later conversions and extensions in various architectural styles characterize the image of the church. The great town fire of 1759 destroyed the vaults and medieval interior as well as the tower, which was 100 meters high at the time. Under the direction of the Ludwigslust court architect Johann Joachim Busch, the roof and interior of the church were redesigned in the Baroque style. The central nave was given a wooden semi-circular barrel vault on brick latticework supports, while the side aisles were given flat wooden roofing. The tower lantern was not added until 1841/43 according to designs by Georg Adolph Demmler. After 1980, the interior was remodeled again with the addition of a winter church and parish rooms. In 1994, the organ from the workshop of the Dresden organ builder Jehmlich was inaugurated. Today, in addition to church services and community events, concerts, exhibitions and guided tours take place regularly. On a clear day, the towers of Rostock can be seen with the naked eye.

Evangelical Lutheran parish of Wesenberg Construction of today's Marienkirche probably began at the end of the 13th century. The choir and the lower tower storeys are the oldest parts of the church and are made of fieldstone masonry with some use of bricks, and a town register note from 1337 states that the church is "complete". The nave was built in the second half of the 14th century. The vaulting of the choir took place in the second half of the 15th century and the south porch was built at the end of the 15th century. At the beginning of the 16th century, the window openings were changed and a vaulted chapel room was built in the second northern choir bay in honor of the Holy Spirit. The Röder organ is the oldest organ in Berlin.

St. Peter's Church

St. Petri Church is the former court church of the Dukes of Pomerania-Wolgast. The 14th-century three-nave basilica served as the court church of the Dukes of Pomerania-Wolgast. It was built around 1350 in honor of the Apostle Peter. A pagan temple is said to have originally stood on the same site, which Otto of Bamberg had destroyed during the Christianization of Pomerania. Today, the burial site of the last Dukes of Pomerania is located in the crypt of St. Petri, and the nave features a medieval cycle of paintings depicting the Dance of Death. There are 184 steps leading up to the tower of St. Petri Church, which can be climbed during the church’s opening hours. From the top, a wonderful panoramic view stretches across the city of Wolgast all the way to the island of Usedom.

St. Petri Church in Benz was first mentioned in 1229. The medieval stone masonry structure has been visible since the renovation in 1991–92. Also of interest are the upper tower and the 18th- and 19th-century interior, featuring a painted coffered ceiling. For over 30 years, St. Petri Church in Benz has hosted the “Church Summer” series, featuring concerts, readings, and lectures.

St. Johannis Church in Kühlungsborn

St. Johannis Church in Kühlungsborn – Mecklenburg’s first “cycle path church” The fieldstone church was built in 1220 by the nuns of Parchow. Its distinctive feature is the wooden bell tower (in its current form dating from 1680), which has stood there since before 1500. Around 1400, the church was expanded to include the Gothic choir and vaulted ceiling. The triumphal cross group and the Madonna figure date from around 1400. Local families immortalized themselves in the 42 Baroque stained-glass windows in the choir around 1660. In 1963, the EULE company (Bautzen) built a new organ for this church (11 sounding stops on two manuals). Following extensive renovation (2011/2012), the church received a new altar table, a lectern, and an altar cross made of high-quality acrylic glass. With its simple form and subdued color scheme, the altar allows the restored Baroque figures in the choir area to stand out more prominently. The triumphal crucifix group and the crowned Madonna also appear in a restored version. The organ was moved from the west gallery to the south gallery, allowing for a rich, expansive sound. Since March 2012, it has been the first “cycle route church” in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (restroom / rest area / bicycle repair service provided by Wilfried Pietsch: 0173 - 2364549)

St. Paul's Church Bobbin

The Bobbin church is the only preserved fieldstone church on Rügen, which is visible from afar on a hill. The church has belonged to the Protestant parish of Altenkirchen & Wiek since 2006. The nave with choir and sacristy was completed around 1400. The tower was added 100 years later. The building has undergone various changes since then. The last renovation inside the church took place in 1954/55, and the roof, originally covered with slate, was renovated in 1971. In the 15th and 16th centuries, St. Pauli was one of several pilgrimage churches on Rügen. According to historical sources, Pope Boniface IX granted indulgences to visitors and benefactors of the "ecclesia parochialis S. Pauli in Bobbin" (belonging to the diocese of Roskilde). In 1472 a head of the "Brotherhood of St. Mary" is mentioned, after the Reformation the patronage presumably lay with the respective sovereign, since the 2nd half of the 17th century with the lordship of Spyker. From the second half of the 17th century, it was held by the lordship of Spyker. The oldest item in the church is the Fünte (baptismal font), probably dating from 1300. Services are held every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 10 a.m. from Easter to Thanksgiving.

St. Peter's Church, Mönkebude

The church in Mönkebude is located on the southwestern shore of the Szczecin Lagoon within the Haffküste Landscape Conservation Area. To the south and west of the community lies the Ueckermünder Heide. St. Petri Church was built in 1933–1934 as the first church in this village, which is approximately 750 years old. The church is oriented east-west on a trapezoidal plot between a state highway and a local road, about 1,000 meters from the lagoon shore. The tower is 18 meters high, including the cross. The church is constructed of brick masonry (wall thickness: nave 50 cm, tower 62.5 cm) as a simple, single-nave hall church (roof pitch approx. 45°), with a recessed wooden beam ceiling and a barrel-vaulted chancel. A photovoltaic system (2002–2004) has been installed on the south side of the roof. With its octagonal spire, the church tower resembles a lighthouse with a viewing gallery.

St. Catherine's Church Trent

St. Catherine's Church in Trent is a 14th century church building and is also known as a "wayside church" due to its location. Trent, first mentioned in 1311, lies at a fork in one of the three old Rügen country roads and the church is a brick Gothic building. The oldest part of today's church is the choir, which dates from around 1400, while the nave was built at the end of the 15th century as an imposing three-aisled hall, probably by the same builders who also worked on St. Marien Stralsund and St. Jakob Gingst. Apart from the pulpit in the late Renaissance style, the uniform Baroque furnishings (altar, baptismal font, confessional), which were created in 1752-1754 by the Stralsund sculptor Michael Müller, predominate. Gravestones and epitaphs refer to the close relationship with the von Platen patronage family. Church services are held here fortnightly at 9.00 am. A special tradition are the concerts during the concert summer in July and August, usually on Sundays and/or Wednesdays. Visits are possible from May to October according to the notice board or by prior arrangement and guided tours of the church after the service.

The Krakow am See City Library is located in the city center at Am Schulplatz 2 in the Old School. It offers its services to all residents, visitors, and vacationers. It is accessible to people with disabilities and currently has a collection of approximately 7,000 items. In addition to books (fiction, children’s and young adult literature, and nonfiction), the library also offers magazines, music, audio CDs, Tonies, Tip Toi pens, and DVDs for all age groups. Since 2021, the library has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Interlibrary Loan Network. You’ll find a selection of regional literature and Low German literature listed separately. The library offers a paid internet workstation. Free Wi-Fi is available via the “Alte Schule” hotspot. Use of the library is free for children and young people up to age 21, as well as for holders of a valid spa card. According to the bylaws, adults pay an annual usage fee of €10. The City Library works closely with the Nature Park School, local daycare centers, and the cultural association “Alte Synagoge” e.V. The library hosts storytime sessions, library tours, and author readings. The Malchin Public Library is one of the oldest in Mecklenburg. It was founded as early as 1898. Despite its long history, the library is by no means outdated today. “BORROW INSTEAD OF BUYING”— that is the municipal library’s motto, as an extensive, up-to-date, and appealing collection of approximately 20,000 items is available to the residents of Malchin and the surrounding area. Novels, non-fiction, and children’s literature are available, as are DVDs and magazines. An extensive collection of audiobooks is also available for those interested. Tonis and the Onleihe round out the offerings. To keep the collection up to date, approximately 1,500 new items are acquired for lending each year. All items can be borrowed for four weeks. Films are an exception; they may only be borrowed for 14 days. Renewals can be made by phone or email.

The Wolgast town harbor exudes an impressive maritime flair. Passenger ships set off on excursions to the Achterwasser and Greifswalder Bodden. The sailing ship "Weiße Düne" invites guests to take a trip. There is a sensational view of the Petrikirche church and the town center. The imposing bascule bridge to the island of Usedom and the Peene shipyard characterize the town on the Peene River. The Wolgast town harbor is the departure point for classic harbor tours, boat trips on the Achterwasser or the Peene River. This is also where the leisure captains moor their houseboats and sailing yachts. With around 100 calls per year, from May to September you also have the chance to watch the large river cruise ships crossing under the Peene Bridge or mooring and casting off. All year round, fish restaurants often invite you to enjoy a meal with live music and a view of the water. Every year during the Wolgast Harbour Days on the first weekend in July, the harbour street is transformed into a maritime shopping mile with lots of hustle and bustle and various demonstrations on and in the water. Route of North German Romanticism: Wolgast harbor - two painters - one motif The town harbor of Wolgast conveys a maritime flair. Such motifs were of particular interest to Romantics and were often depicted in paintings. As Runge's hometown, it is not surprising that he chose the harbor as the location for one of his drawings. The painting "Landscape on the Peene" was created in 1806. Here, a ship with a Swedish flag is clearly depicted. Caspar David Friedrich also took the opportunity to draw at Wolgast harbor during his honeymoon in 1818. He often visited the town of Wolgast during his stays at home, as sketches of the remains of Wolgast Castle at the time show.
