MehlWelten Museum Wittenburg

MehlWelten Museum Wittenburg

The largest flour sack collection in the world is at home here: the Sackothek, the heart of the museum, houses almost 4,000 exhibits from over 140 countries - including historical flour sacks from the time of the Berlin Airlift. Embark on a sensory journey, learn about the international symbolic language of flour sacks or about flour myths and find out what Ötzi had to do with flour. A new exhibition room shows the industrial production of flour through three exhibits and an artistic video installation with breathtaking sound The MehlWelten Museum in Wittenburg on the A24 Hamburg-Berlin highway provides an answer to this seemingly strange question. Everything on display here in the beautiful and carefully restored historic district court building is both fascinating and informative. The world's largest and unique collection of flour sacks provides artful information about the power that different cultures attribute to flour. How, when and where did the grain develop from einkorn, the original grain, and lead to the first advanced civilizations? How did Mozart get his wig so white and shiny and what is behind the famous Moulin Rouge? And why does one of the biggest aid and rescue operations in German history, the Berlin Airlift, fit into this exhibition? The answers to these questions are provided by the magic word flour, one of mankind's most important staple foods. The MehlWelten Museum is protected by Demeter, the goddess of grain. She was made from more than 10,000 knots of thread. She welcomes all visitors and promises a stimulating and exciting excursion. Opening hours All year round every Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00 additionally March to October every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 12:00 to 17:00 Admission is free!

Meiningen bridge

Meiningen bridge

Zingst

The Meiningen Bridge is a technical landmark with over 100 years of history, which has shaped the transition from rail to road transport and still plays a central role for the region today. The Meiningen Bridge has connected the mainland with the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula since 1910. Originally built as a railroad bridge for the Darßbahn, it was used for road traffic after the Second World War and developed into the region's central traffic artery. Due to its age, a temporary bridge around 200 m long with a lifting section was built in 2012, which still carries road, cycle and pedestrian traffic today. A rail connection is also planned for the replacement construction.

Knife manufacturer Hornhecht

Knife manufacturer Hornhecht

Cammin

Richard Lehmann forges - by hand and with great passion. The finest knives suitable for everyday use are made primarily from Damascus steel that he folds himself. The knives are given a special character not only by the blacksmith's creativity, but also by the antiquarian spindle press, which shapes the glowing iron with up to 30 tons of pressure. Each piece is unique. Prefabricated blanks or industrial handles are out of the question for the blacksmith. The various types of steel are carefully combined and processed into blade shapes that are second to none. The knife maker uses wood, antlers and horn from all over the world as handle materials. In addition, "upcycling" is taken to a new level in this small barn workshop. For example, old, battered humpback knives are fitted with new olive wood handles and given a new lease of life. The blacksmith provides insights into his workshop. He heats up the forge and demonstrates various techniques, including the screw press. Coffee and cake are served.

Our family-run farm is located on the L22 between Wolgast and the island of Usedom. The farm has been in our family since 1889, before it was taken over by the fourth generation in 1991. It started with 10 dairy cows, which over the years developed into a herd of 100 dairy cows plus offspring and bull fattening. A total of three breeds belong to this herd: Angler, Rotbunt and Schwarzbunt. Horses, dogs, cats and rabbits have also found a home on our farm. Our GMO-free farm also cultivates agricultural land on which a wide variety of cereals such as rye, barley, wheat and oats, as well as lupins, alfalfa, maize and potatoes grow and thrive. This is also where we obtain the feed for our dairy cows, only rapeseed meal and mineral feed is bought in. From May to October, the dairy cows have plenty of access to the pasture and can graze to their heart's content during these months. They are milked in the morning and evening. Some of the fresh milk is used to fill our two milk vending machines so that you can tap our delicious and untreated raw milk yourself 24 hours a day. It also contains important and natural ingredients. We have been offering beef from young bulls since May 2017. The bulls are kept in a large open stable. On Königsstraße—now Puschkinstraße—across from the Palais Brandenstein stands the stately former grand ducal ministerial palace, whose rear opens onto a largely preserved courtyard. The glazier Schwede built the house in 1873. From 1783/85 onward, Count Bernhard Friedrich von Bassewitz was the owner of the estate, described as a “house with an adjoining wing, a wood shed, and a stable with a carriage house.” Through the purchase of two adjacent plots of land, the property was expanded into a stately residence. Its elegance defines the character of today’s palace. The estate has been in grand ducal ownership since around 1820. Following extensive renovations and the addition of a large hall facing the courtyard, it was designated as the official residence of the President of the Chamber. Since the mid-19th century, various government ministers have resided here. In 1896, the stately residence underwent extensive modernization to serve as the palace for the “Privy Councilor,” the state’s prime minister. About the Style The nine-axis, two-story half-timbered palace features two stately, double-axis mansard extensions in its roof area. The structure of the individual houses is still visible today in the half-timbering of the facade. The complex’s preserved enclosed courtyard underscores the ceremonial character of what was once an urban nobleman’s estate and later the palace of the Grand Ducal Prime Minister.

Medieval Fortifications and Defensive Structures in Neubrandenburg

Medieval Fortifications and Defensive Structures in Neubrandenburg

Neubrandenburg

Visitors can experience a sense of medieval romance as they stroll along the nearly completely preserved ramparts and fortifications, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. To fully experience the complex, we recommend taking two walks around the approximately 2.5-kilometer-long city wall. A tour inside the walls gives you a sense of the city defenders’ vantage points, while a walk along the now overgrown ramparts offers a view of the attackers’ positions. The medieval ramparts and fortifications in Neubrandenburg feature four Gothic gates (Treptower Gate, New Gate, Friedländer Gate, and Stargarder Gate), 25 watchtowers, and a Fangelturm.
