Dargun Castle Park

Dargun Castle Park

Dargun

In Dargun Castle Park, you can stroll along historical paths, visit the castle grounds and the museum and browse in the Dargun monastery store. Today's castle garden shows traces of the Renaissance, Baroque and 19th century as well as a careful reconstruction in recent years. The parterre fields around the pavilion, indicated by slightly lower grass paths, are reminiscent of the design of the palace garden in Güstrow. The Renaissance garden was created under Duke Johann Albrecht, who was a frequent visitor to Dargun. The gardens were devastated during the Thirty Years' War. Under Duke Gustav Adolf, the palace garden was redesigned in the Baroque style. The old yew trees are the remains of Baroque topiary. The garden quarters are aligned with the tea pavilion, which was built around 1690. The relationship to the palace was important for the Baroque garden. The garden was accessed from the double flight of steps at the south-west tower. According to a plan by Klett, court gardener in Schwerin, the four-row chestnut avenue with red flowering chestnut trees was planted along the western castle entrance to the Yellow Gate in the last century and the pergola with hornbeams was created south of the church entrance. The agricultural school, which moved into the castle in 1873, used the castle garden for teaching purposes. After 1945, the grounds were parceled out for allotments and a small zoo was created. With the reconstruction of the garden, the allotments were relocated and an open orchard was re-established. Klett's arcade was reconstructed and one row of the four-row avenue was planted with red-flowering chestnut trees. Today, in the extensive park you can see yew trees that are over 300 years old, a hornbeam arcade, a ginkgo tree, a large orchard, a fish ladder completed in 2016 and the tea pavilion, which is used as the local registry office. A barrier-free circular path for visitors with limited mobility was completed in 2020. The park is open to the public and has plenty of free parking spaces and a public toilet. You can combine a walk in the park with a tour of the monastery and castle complex, a visit to "Uns lütt Museum" or a shopping spree in the Dargun monastery store.

Permanent exhibition "Model railroads from 150 years"

Permanent exhibition "Model railroads from 150 years"

Moltzow

150 years of model railroading - 15 dioramas, display cases and model railroad panels show the development of model railroading from its beginnings to the present day. A model railroad is a scaled-down (scale smaller than one) replica of parts of a "large" railroad. The classic toy trains were already being built on a larger scale at the beginning of the 20th century for the nominal size 1 in 1:32 and 0 in 1:45. Well-known manufacturers included Bing and Märklin. It is typical that the locomotives can drive themselves thanks to a built-in drive. The size ratio between the model and the prototype (for example 1:87) is referred to as the scale, whereby common scales are each assigned a letter/number abbreviation (T, Z, N, TT, H0, 0 etc.; order starting with the largest reduction in size). The most common scales are - T, 3mm M 1:480 - Z, 6mm M 1:220 - N, 9mm M 1:160 - TT, 12mm M1:120 - H0, 16mm M1:87 - 0, 32 mm M1:45 - II, 64mm M1:22.5). The exhibition will feature 15 dioramas, showcases and model railroad plates in these gauges. There are also plans to build a G-gauge garden railroad in 45 mm. This scale reproduces a narrow-gauge railroad with an original gauge of approx. 1200 mm. Please telephone or register by email before visiting.

Permanent position "400 sheets of BEP (butter wrapping paper) in the Heimatstube Rambow"

Permanent position "400 sheets of BEP (butter wrapping paper) in the Heimatstube Rambow"

Moltzow

The Heimatstube Rambow is perhaps the only museum to display 400 sheets of butter wrapping paper from 25 countries. The exhibition is complemented by 10 historical butter churns, 30 old butter molds, milk churns of various shapes, emergency banknotes and stamps, of course all related to butter. The 400 sheets are housed in eight folders. To enjoy the entire collection, you need time. But here you can experience a museum in a different way. You are offered music in a wide variety of styles and a few slices of butter to accompany your favorite drink. Then you can immerse yourself in the creativity of graphic artists from different countries. What everyone overlooks when eating butter every day is revealed here. Butter is a spreadable fat that people have been using ever since they started milking cows for food. Butter is made almost exclusively from cow's milk. Weihenstephan is one of the oldest dairies in the world and has been in existence for almost 1,000 years. With this collection, the Heimatstube Rambow aims above all to convey the effort and expense required to get a piece of butter on the table. Operator Peter Ramsch used to make butter by hand with a butter churn on his grandmother's farm as a teenager and therefore knows the effort involved. The exhibition is complemented by 10 historic butter churns, 30 old butter molds, milk churns of various shapes, emergency banknotes and stamps, all related to butter, of course. If you are interested, please register by telephone or e-mail. PS: The Heimatstube displays a total of 14,000 exhibits, including 1,300 salt and pepper shakers, 1,800 minerals, 750 types of sand from 130 countries and much more.

Located directly on the Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance cycle path, Ankershagen Church invites you on a short journey through time and space. One of the oldest village churches in Mecklenburg, full of fascinating paintings, medieval art and a peaceful atmosphere. Ideal for a break - to discover, pause and move on. Welcome to the Ankershagen church The church of Ankershagen - one of the oldest village churches in Mecklenburg - awaits you in the middle of the idyllic Mecklenburg Lake District. It was consecrated back in 1266 - and to this day it exudes a special calm and history that you can sense as soon as you enter. The church, built from fieldstone and with a half-timbered tower added later, is a two-aisled hall church with impressive neo-Gothic furnishings. The oldest part, the choir, even dates back to the early 13th century. Be fascinated by the unusual ceiling paintings - their depictions are unique, and an accompanying exhibition invites you to discover their possible meanings. On the east wall you will find impressive frescoes from the 15th century - including the St. George fresco with St. George fighting the dragon. There is also plenty to discover inside: a wooden baptismal font from the 17th century, an expressive crucifix corpus from the 15th century and an altarpiece with the biblical scene of the resurrection of Lazarus. Music lovers will be delighted by the Lütkemüller organ - a valuable instrument from 1874 that is regularly played at church services and concerts. The Ankershagen church is not only a place of history, but also a place of tranquillity - it is a certified cycle path church and is located directly on the Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance cycle path. Whether you are looking for a short break, want to stop for some peace and quiet or simply want to be inspired - you are welcome here. There is a small reading room, a rest area and lots of information about the region.
