Pfaffenteich
The Pfaffenteich in the heart of Schwerin, surrounded by a wide promenade, stretches over 12 hectares and is lined with impressive historical ensembles. Once the source of a mill and now a symbol of the city, it offers a harmonious combination of history and relaxation. There is a true story behind the name of Schwerin's "Little Inner Alster". Pastors and bishops of the nearby cathedral parish once cultivated their gardens on the eastern shore of the man-made lake. A dam was probably built as early as the 12th century to retain water for the operation of a mill. The former "mill pond" used to extend as far as today's Schlossstraße; the water also fed the moat at the time. The Pfaffenteich in its current form covers an area of around 12 hectares and was redesigned at the end of the 19th century. The water is bordered by a wide promenade, which is a real invitation to take a stroll. Numerous beautiful historic town houses surround the Pfaffenteich. Two sun terraces offer lovely places to linger and enjoy the view. The small Pfaffenteich ferry "Petermännchen", which shuttles between the banks without a timetable, also has a long tradition.
St. Mary's parish church
📍 Güstrow
Güstrow's parish church is located on the market square in the immediate vicinity of the town hall. The first documented mention of the parish church dates back to 1308. After the fire in Güstrow city center in 1503, which also destroyed the church, it was rebuilt and consecrated in 1508. When you enter the parish church, the first thing you see is the fully restored Jan Borman altar from 1522. This work of art, the ornate pulpit, the impressive organ and a small Barlach angel are reasons enough to take a look around. But there is one very special highlight that you should definitely not miss: 196 steps up to the 41-metre-high viewing platform of Güstrow's tallest building. Many tourists are amazed by the magnificent view over the town and Heidberge, the lakes and the meadows. The first documented mention of the parish church dates back to 1308. After the fire in Güstrow town centre in 1503, which also destroyed the church, it was rebuilt and consecrated in 1508. According to plans by architect Georg Daniel, it was extensively rebuilt between 1880 and 1883 into a three-nave hall church with a straight east end, three gabled roofs over the naves and a side hall with a west tower. The large winged altar from 1522, a work from the workshop of the Brussels carver Jan Borman, is one of the church's outstanding artistic treasures. The panels of the altar were painted by the Brussels artist Bernaert van Orley. The triumphal cross group (1516), the Madonna in the aureole, the sandstone pulpit (1583) by the Antwerp master Rudolf Stockmann, the council stalls with valuable inlay work (1599) by Michel Meyer from Rostock and numerous Renaissance epitaphs are among the valuable furnishings. The organ with 41 stops was built by Paul Schmidt in 1764/1765. The magnificent organ façade and the rococo baroque-style gallery also date from this period. The oak figure of the mourning Mary with the body of Christ, a Pietá from the end of the 15th century, is the oldest work of art in the church, but modern art is also represented in the imposing brick church. Since 1979, the "Angel of Hope" (1933), a terracotta relief by Ernst Barlach, has been located on the right pillar of the chancel. It is not easy to climb up the tower to the baroque spire. But the effort is rewarded with a sweeping view of the Mecklenburg countryside. St. Mary's parish church is certified as "Partially barrier-free for people with walking disabilities and partially barrier-free for people with hearing disabilities" according to Travel for All. ROESNEREI - Stories made of paper
📍 Güstrow
ROESNEREI presents stories made of paper in its store studio! In my store studio in Güstrow, the ROESNEREI, stories are created from paper - or to be more precise, from the most diverse papers you can imagine: Old and new, used and unused, precious and banal, strange and everyday. In the papier-mâché technique, these materials are transformed into figures and episodes that I encounter in life or that occupy me. Sometimes this leads to bizarre stories in the course of which special personalities, such as stag ladies and gentlemen, are born - but spring ladies, table parties, boat trips or even lucky swings can also be found in the ROESNEREI. In addition, a selection from the collage series "Signs from Paradise" - small works of art that tell stories from paradise ... And not forgetting wonderful necklaces with medallions (also made of paper, of course) from the "GLÜCKSSTÜCKE" series - each bead is individually hand-formed ... Paper is my passion and I love working with this wonderful material more than anything. Opening hours: Jan.-Dec.: Wed-Fri 13-17, Sat 11-14

Rest area at Lake Hertha
The Hohe Holz is one of Teterow's three urban hiking areas. It is characterized by an extraordinary beech tree population. The "Hohe Holz" is characterized by a magnificent stand of beech trees. This is what makes the hiking area so special. The trees have been standing there for more than 100 years and have now grown to a height of around 40 meters. Remarkable: if beech shafts usually reach a length of 10 to 12 meters, the specimens in the "Hohe Holz" reach an impressive 15 to 20 meters. The seed of the trees has the quality label "special origin". Lake Hertha, a dreamy forest pond surrounded by water irises and woodruff, is steeped in legend. The beautiful Princess Hertha is said to live at the bottom of the lake. On St. John's Eve, she drives around the lake three times in a golden carriage pulled by four white swans. Afterwards, the carriage sinks back into the depths... The covered picnic area at Lake Hertha is the perfect place for a picnic. If you like, you can also enjoy nature from the bench by the lake. There is also a small educational tree trail in the area of the rest area. Traces of a long history of settlement can also be found in the "Hohe Holz". The stone cist grave here dates back to 3000-1800 BC. Hikers can enjoy a charming view over the town and the hills of the Teterow basin from the upper Hohlweg. The "Hohes Holz" restaurant invites you to stop for refreshments.
Rechlin Wall
Rechlin's development is closely linked to aviation technology. Already during the First World War, a railroad connection was built and an aviation testing and training institute was handed over. All activities come to a standstill as a result of the Treaty of Versailles. It was not until 1934 that the site was rapidly expanded to become the largest test site of the German Air Force on the Müritz. Housing estates (today Rechlin and Rechlin-Nord) with the corresponding infrastructure were built, and the Mirower Canal and the Claassee-Müritz link were constructed. The village acquires its settlement structure, which is atypical for a Mecklenburg village. Around 1940, around 4000 people lived and worked in Rechlin. In addition, there were conscripts, forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners who were deployed as auxiliary workers at the testing site. The constant expansion of the Lärz airfield required extensive earthworks and leveling work. During this time, Rechlin undoubtedly achieved top organizational, engineering and aeronautical performances. Rechlin was developed into an important garrison base and separated into two parts by a wall, the German and Russian sectors. This wall only came down in 1993 with the withdrawal of the last CIS forces.
Regina & Ingo Chinow | RAKURITÄT Event ceramics from Saal
Animal RAKURITÄTEN: The original from Saal Rakuritäten - in this word we have combined raku ceramics, rarities and curiosities. "Rakuritäten - these are mostly animal figures with a lot of character, created by Rina Chinow, the caricaturist among the ceramists. The lovingly shaped figures with their irresistible looks are fired by Rina and her husband Ingo using an old Japanese firing technique. This gives them their unique "crackle": the glaze cracks and in the subsequent fire bath, carbon settles in the cracks, giving the surfaces of the lovable Rakuritäten a noble life of their own." These words were written by Maxi Schreiber, fire artist and freelancer at Rakuritäten. We look forward to getting to know you, you or you. Perhaps here in our farm store or in the workshop. You are also welcome to visit our entertaining channels on YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. The artist couple regularly go on barn tours through Germany and invite you to creative courses in the Saal workshop. The "Kieke-Eys" are legendary and unmistakable! Regina & Ingo Chinow from Saal
