The 57-year-old is one of the few butchers still active in MV. In the run-up to Christmas, the country butcher's shop in Schlieffenberg near Teterow (Rostock district) is a hive of activity. Home slaughtering has had its own rituals for generations. "When the pig hangs on the hook, it's time to pour the wine," goes an old saying. High spirits were part of the slaughter, even later at the feast for everyone involved. Traditionally, Wellfleisch, coarse bread and Köm were served. The last sip was taken just before the butcher left the farm. The trained farmer set up his own country butcher's shop on his property over 20 years ago. In this way, the family tradition of home butchery, which his grandfather and father once ran as a sideline, is being continued. Customers bring their animals themselves and hours later everything is professionally cut up and returned. Mirow Castle Island - Love Island

Mirow Castle Island - Love Island

Mirow

Liebesinsel is part of the Mirow Castle complex. It is connected to the castle island by an iron bridge. On “Liebesinsel” lies the tomb of Adolf Friedrich VI, the last Grand Duke of the Mecklenburg-Strelitz region. He died in February 1918 under unexplained circumstances. Both his life and his death remain a mystery. It is believed that he shot himself. In accordance with his 1917 will, which already included a design for the tomb, he was buried on Love Island. This monument also serves as the “stone-set” conclusion to the history of the ruling House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and the palace as a ducal residence.

Hullerbusch sheep farm with farm store

Hullerbusch sheep farm with farm store

Feldberger Seenlandschaft

The Hullerbusch sheep farm is located in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park, between the steep banks of the Zansen and Schmalen Luzin rivers. Here we take care of the landscape with our rough-wool Pomeranian sheep in the most natural way. We offer meat and wool products from our animals in our farm store. In the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park, between the steep banks of the Zansen and the Schmal Luzin, lie the pastures and the farmstead of the Hullerbusch sheep farm. Our sheep and goats feed all year round on the herb-rich pastures in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park. In the nature reserves of Hauptmannsberg and Schmaler Luzin, we thus maintain the landscape. We grow our own winter fodder (hay and grain) on our land. The lambs therefore thrive almost without concentrated feed; we do not use intensive fattening. This is why the lambs grow slowly and develop dark, mature, aromatic meat - you can taste it! In our farm store you can see, touch, smell, taste and of course buy many of the results of our work and that of other organic and small farms. We have fresh lamb for you from our own slaughterhouse, as well as sheep and goat sausage and ham. We process some of our sheep's wool into knitting wool, socks, wool pile vests and soft toys. We buy other wool products such as felt slippers, felt soles, slippers, fur shoes, gloves and soap for you to round off our range. In front of our small farm store you will find a few nice places to relax and linger. You can also enjoy a snack here. And of course there's coffee and tea, perhaps accompanied by goat's milk ice cream or a slice of cake. We also have lamb solyanka and lamb wiener for you.

Burg Schlitz-Görzhausen Sculpture Trail

Burg Schlitz-Görzhausen Sculpture Trail

Hohen Demzin

Art along the way... what a great idea! Sculptures that truly "come to life" in nature and the surrounding cultural landscape. Fire, Millennium Trees, pasque flowers, a fried egg, ancestral or messenger stones, steles, pyramids, and cuddly shells...In every season, in any weather, with ever-changing impressions—a wonderful experience... An open-air exhibition space, a path you can stroll along, taking in not only the art but also breathtaking nature: Mecklenburg Switzerland. As a Swiss person, you might find this name amusing, but by Mecklenburg standards, the hills rise high. The hills rise gently, they slope down gently again, and this creates a smoothness, a harmony, that is unparalleled. At the beginning of the 19th century, Hans Graf von Schlitz was drawn to this area, surrounding his newly built castle, “Burg Schlitz,” with an unusual park. Graf Schlitz planted many trees, including exotic species, and skillfully laid out extensive walking paths. He had thirty-six monuments erected: columns, obelisks, grottoes, and even lakes. Görzhausen was also established at this time—today the center of the new sculpture trail being created between here and Burg Schlitz. In the late 1990s, the two artists Wilfried Duwentester and Bernd Uiberall took up the count’s idea and brought it into dialogue with contemporary sculpture. The sculptures “live” in the open air, in dialogue with the vastness and the existing cultural landscape, which has been shaped by humans for centuries yet still harbors a powerful, almost exuberant natural vitality. The Sculpture Trail thrives largely on the fact that the artists incorporate the existing landscape into their work from the very moment of creation. As walkers, we can then listen to the resulting dialogue between landscape and art. Every visit to the Sculpture Trail is different. The changing weather and seasons constantly lend the landscape a completely different character, creating an enormous variety of impressions even in the same spot, with the same sculpture.
