Neustrelitz State Theater

Neustrelitz

Experience culture, feel history in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of theater in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District! The Landestheater Neustrelitz delights audiences with a diverse program of plays, musical theater, concerts, and dance. From classical masterpieces to modern productions—every performance here becomes an unforgettable experience. Whether it’s gripping dramas, lighthearted comedies, or impressive operas—the Landestheater Neustrelitz offers cultural delights for every taste. You’re in for unforgettable summer evenings at the Schlossgarten Festspiele Neustrelitz! Against the magnificent backdrop of the historic palace gardens, a unique open-air experience unfolds, filled with music, theater, and impressive stagecraft. The Neustrelitz State Theater looks back on an eventful history dating back to the 18th century. Originally built between 1755 and 1758 as a riding hall in the palace gardens based on a French model, the building was converted into a redouta hall in 1769 by master mason Martin Seydel and inaugurated by the “Ducal Society of German Actors.” From 1775 onward, it served as the permanent court theater and retained its exterior appearance until January 15, 1924. After a performance of Richard Wagner’s opera “Tannhäuser,” the building burned to the ground. Over the next four years, it was rebuilt in a modern style under the direction of the Munich architect Prof. Max Littmann. In May 1945, the theater was once again destroyed by fire. It was not until 1954 that it could be reopened, based on Littmann’s plans, now as the “Friedrich-Wolf-Theater” of what was then the Neubrandenburg district. Since 1991, this historic venue has once again borne the name Landestheater. Today, the auditorium has 400 seats and houses the artistic director’s office, the workshops, and the administration of Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz. You can find the current program here.

Take a stroll through the expansive park with its sweeping views: a jewel in the crown of the state (as it was once called...) Count Hahm had the park and the village redesigned. He brought in Court Architect F.A. Stüler from Berlin and the Royal Prussian Director of Gardens, Peter Joseph Lenné, from Potsdam-Sanssouci. Together, they created a “landscaped estate” spanning 200 hectares, nestled within the natural beauty of Mecklenburg Switzerland. Explore the flower garden, hike along the outer park path, or take a stroll along the inner loop trail. You’ll be impressed!

Marie Hager House

Marie Hager House

Burg Stargard

This historic house, a designated landmark, is dedicated to the memory of the landscape and architectural painter Marie Hager. In addition to her works and items from her estate, works by artists from the region are also regularly exhibited. A permanent gallery featuring works by the Mecklenburg landscape and architectural painter Marie Hager can be seen at Burg Stargard. Also on display are furniture, letters, and other personal items from the estate of the artist, who lived and worked in Burg Stargard from 1921 until her death in 1947. The fact that a major exhibition of Marie Hager’s works is on display in her former home is thanks to one of the painter’s nieces. She bequeathed the estate and the house to the city on the condition that the building be turned into a memorial and a meeting place for art and artists. Three rooms in the lovingly designed house are used for various special exhibitions by artists from the region.

Our philosophy is close-to-nature husbandry, i.e. the calves stay with their mother for up to 8 months, spend the summer on pasture and winter in large straw barns. All feed, such as hay, maize silage and lucerne, is produced in-house. Our Wagyus receive maximum animal welfare, which is reflected in the unique taste and tenderness of the Wagyu meat. Try the finely marbled Wagyu meat from our farm and experience a culinary delight in a class of its own. You are welcome to visit our farm. Please make an appointment in advance. Several times a year we invite you to events on our farm where you can taste, marvel and enjoy. In a rustic ambience and with a view of the animals, we spoil you with various meat cuts. Mecklenburg Glass Workshop

Mecklenburg Glass Workshop

Waren (Müritz)

Thuringian glass art on the banks of the Müritz The glass workshop at the Waren (Müritz) town harbor is well worth a visit. The idea of the "Thüringer Kristallhof" from Stadtroda / OT Gernewitz to provide an insight into the art of glass blowing, cutting and engraving as part of a sales exhibition has been successfully realized. Watching the artists at work as they create artistic glass items or trying their hand at glass blowing and engraving are popular experiences. The range on offer is extensive, from everyday glass to high-quality lead crystal. The best-selling souvenir and souvenir is the Müritz devil, created by the art glassblower Reinhardt Steger from Neuhaus / Rwg. who can effortlessly perform funny dances. This "Cartesian dancing devil" was discovered around 1640 by Renatus Carterius. The sales exhibition is particularly busy in the run-up to Christmas and Easter. This is when visitors from near and far are interested in the Christmas tree baubles and delicate spring decorations on offer. The establishment of the glass workshop is also linked to the idea of commemorating the glass-making tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries in the Müritz region. Today we know that there were 21 glassworks around the Müritz, which made the charming ruby glass famous. Place names such as Glashütte near Malchow point to the past.
