Church of St. Peter & St. Paul in Zarrentin Zarrentin Church is a Gothic parish church and former monastery church in the historic town center of Zarrentin am Schaalsee. The Romanesque fieldstone and brick church was a village church in the first half of the 13th century. Around 1250, the Zarrentin convent was founded as a Cistercian monastery. The parish church now became the convent church. The Romanesque fieldstone masonry of the square choir dates back to the 1230s/40s. In 1460, using parts of the old church, the current Gothic nave was built from bricks. In 1552, the nunnery was dissolved and the church was once again the parish church of the village.

Right next to the Pahlhuus Zarrentin begins a 700-meter-long adventure trail through the nearby moor, which was created after the last ice age by the silting up of the shores of Lake Schaal. The boardwalk through the Zarrentiner Kalkflachmoor is a nature trail of a special kind. On dry land, you can gain interesting insights into a sensitive habitat. At nine stations, visitors learn interesting facts about the history of the moor and its inhabitants as well as the special features of the Zarrentiner Kalkflachmoor: How deep is the limestone muck in the moor? Which beetles need dead wood to live? And what do moors have to do with climate protection? Nature lovers will receive informative answers to these and other questions. And with a bit of luck, they may even be able to observe various water birds, dragonflies and rare amphibians. The bog walkway is also suitable for wheelchair users.
