The Meiningen Bridge is a technical landmark with over 100 years of history, which has shaped the transition from rail to road transport and still plays a central role for the region today. The Meiningen Bridge has connected the mainland with the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula since 1910. Originally built as a railroad bridge for the Darßbahn, it was used for road traffic after the Second World War and developed into the region's central traffic artery. Due to its age, a temporary bridge around 200 m long with a lifting section was built in 2012, which still carries road, cycle and pedestrian traffic today. A rail connection is also planned for the replacement construction.

Meiningen Bridge Zingst - over 100 years of connection to the peninsula

The Meiningen Bridge near Zingst is one of the most striking technical structures on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It has connected the mainland with the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula since 1910 and has shaped life and traffic in this coastal region for more than a century.

From the Darßbahn railroad bridge to an arterial road

Originally built as a railroad bridge for the Darßbahn, the Meiningen Bridge became the region's central road link after the Second World War. Due to its advanced age, a temporary bridge around 200 meters long with a lifting section was built in 2012, which has since accommodated road, cycle and pedestrian traffic. A new rail link to the peninsula is also planned for a future replacement structure - a step that would close the traffic history of this bridge to a certain extent.

Technical monument between the Bodden and the Baltic Sea

The Meiningen Bridge is not only an important infrastructure link, but also a testimony to the eventful transport history of the Baltic Sea region. Anyone traveling on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula - whether as a cyclist, pedestrian or by car - passes this structure, which makes the transformation of the region visible like no other.
