Teterow Fire Department Museum
Teterow Fire Department Museum - Firefighting History in the Old Fire Station The old fire station is located in the historic mill district, right next to the town mill.
It dates back to 1896 and served as the home of the Teterow Volunteer Fire Department—founded in 1868—for more than seven decades. After a severe fall storm in 1964, the hose tower began to lean dangerously, so it was demolished to ensure safety. As a result, the building lost an important functional element. As the fire department’s range of duties expanded, the old fire station proved unsuitable. The firefighters had reason to celebrate on the 100th anniversary in 1968. The new fire station was handed over, and the town took over use of the old one from then on. As part of the restoration of the Mühlenviertel district, the municipality began restoring the firehouse and reconstructing the hose tower in February 1997. As early as August 14, the completed building was handed over to the firefighters. They immediately began setting up a small but impressive exhibition on the history of the fire department. In 1999, the reconstruction of the annex was also completed. An attractively designed fire department museum was created over a large area. There’s plenty to see here—ranging from information on the development of the fire department in Teterow to old firefighting equipment and fire trucks. It’s well worth a visit. Opening hours: by appointment only at 0174 1650046, and from early June through early September on Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Teterow Fire Department Museum in the Historic Fire Station
The Teterow Fire Department Museum is located in the mill district of Teterow, a small town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania between Rostock and Neubrandenburg. It is housed in the old fire station dating from 1896, which served as the headquarters for the volunteer fire department—founded in 1868—for over seven decades. The striking building, with its reconstructed hose tower, is now one of the region’s small but noteworthy historical museums.
Fire Department History from 1868 to the Present
The exhibition traces the development of the fire department in Teterow from its beginnings to the present day. On display are historic firefighting equipment, old firefighting technology, and fire trucks, which provide a vivid insight into more than 150 years of fire department history. Following an extensive restoration of the firehouse and the reconstruction of the hose tower beginning in 1997, a attractively designed permanent exhibition was created over a large area; it reached its current scope in 1999 with the completion of the annex.
