Priepert Church

Priepert Church—a half-timbered building from 1719 in the Mecklenburg Lake District

The Priepert Church is one of the most remarkable religious buildings in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District, not far from the Baltic Sea coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The half-timbered building dates from 1719 and shows clear Central German influences in both its layout and construction. The floor plan is roughly square with an attached half-dodecagonal choir—an architectural form that is unusual for the region and well worth seeing.

Inside the Priepert Church, special treasures await visitors: an angel leans protectively over the baptismal font, an ornate altarpiece adorns the choir, and a harmonium complements the quiet atmosphere of the church. A small book bazaar also invites visitors to browse. The church is also a stop on the “Mecklenburg Lake District” pilgrimage route.

Concerts and Puppet Shows in the Priepert Church Garden

In the summer, the Priepert Church becomes a venue for events: As part of the “Hour of Music” series, concerts are held inside the church every Friday in July and August. In the church garden, beneath impressive old mulberry trees, puppet shows for the whole family take place on Thursday evenings—a special destination for young and old alike.
