The Chalet O - exclusive event venue

Rostock

Chalet O is an exclusive event venue in alpine chic on the Baltic Sea. Built according to old traditions, alpine chalets embody the perfect idyll far away from the stress and hectic pace of the cities. When you enter a chalet, whether modern or traditional, you are immediately captivated by the unmistakable atmosphere. Inspired by the "living room salon culture" of the 1920s, Chalet O is an attempt to bring an idea back to life: The idea of creating a place where people - regardless of their habitus - but always in respectful coexistence, can exchange ideas about "God and the world" together. Everyone should leave the chalet a little happier and more fulfilled than when they entered.

Photography meets abstract painting and a touch of Prosecco

Photography meets abstract painting and a touch of Prosecco

Rostock

Photographer & painter. My photography is artistic and aesthetic, my painting colorful and abstract. Large format canvases and smaller formats as print or canvas. My name is Jana, a coastal child with plenty of seawater in her blood and a photographer for over 30 years. In my cozy photo studio, you can discover large-format canvas prints and abstract acrylic paintings over a glass of Prosecco. I love spending hours by the sea, listening to the waves with my camera or capturing the decay of old buildings. My photography is artistic and aesthetic, my painting colorful and abstract. I like to offer my feelings in my photographic works, whereas my painting is detached from the tendency towards perfection and inspired by color. Opening hours Whitsun: Sat 11am-6pm, Sun 11am-4pm Jan.-Dec.: Mon 9.30-15 h, Tue+Thurs 9.30-17 h

"Zum Bauernhaus Biestow" Inn

"Zum Bauernhaus Biestow" Inn

Rostock

When you visit our restaurant, you’ll find yourself on the sprawling grounds of what was once one of the six large farms that shaped the character of the village of Biestow for centuries, centered around the church, the village pond, and the parsonage. Catering has been provided here for at least 260 years—as a rest stop along the freight route that once passed through here, as the village tavern for the residents of Biestow and the surrounding villages, and as a popular destination for day-trippers from the neighboring urban areas. Three cozy dining rooms and, in summer, a shady beer garden invite you to linger. You can take a relaxing break with coffee and homemade cake or a freshly tapped beer paired with delicious dishes from the farmhouse kitchen. We recommend following your meal with a short stroll through the idyllic, historic village center of Biestow.

Madeleine Asmus Goldsmiths

Madeleine Asmus Goldsmiths

Rostock

The goldsmith Madeleine Asmus works with recycled and sustainably certified silver or gold, as well as regional natural materials that we can find ourselves—such as a piece of glass from the beach or a stone from the forest. Goldsmithing workshops are also offered here. As a goldsmith, Madeleine Asmus works exclusively with recycled silver and recycled or sustainably certified gold, combined with natural materials from the region. She refers to jewelry made with natural materials as “found object jewelry”—meaning these natural materials can be found by anyone, such as a stone from the forest, a piece of glass from the beach, a fossil, or even wood. But of course, there’s also a selection available in the workshop. Because individuality is very important to her, every piece of jewelry crafted here in the workshop is one-of-a-kind. She also cuts stones or pieces of glass collected by customers themselves upon request. In addition, the concept of “jewelry redesign” is very close to her heart. All you have to do is bring in your older keepsakes or heirlooms. Madeleine Asmus then melts them down in her workshop, pours the metal into a silver or gold sheet mold, and crafts a new piece of jewelry from it. Anyone who wants to get creative and work with their hands—for example, by making a pendant with a piece of beach glass or a stone they found themselves, or by crafting their own wedding rings—can do so in one of the jewelry-making workshops.

Kempowski Archive

Kempowski Archive

Rostock

The writer Walter Kempowski was born in Rostock in 1929 and has created a literary monument to his hometown with the novels of the "German Chronicle." The honorary citizen of the Hanseatic city donated parts of his literary archive to Rostock as early as 1993, which are now on display in a permanent exhibition. Part of writer Walter Kempowski’s literary archive has been housed in the monastery buildings of the “Kloster zum Heiligen Kreuz” since 1993. Between 1993 and 2001, visitors could view the archival materials in two rooms of Building 1. Since November 13, 2002, the archive has been housed in Building 3. This has opened up entirely new possibilities for presenting the life and work of Walter Kempowski. The author Walter Kempowski is one of the most significant and widely read German postwar authors. With the novels of the “German Chronicle,” he has created a literary monument to his hometown of Rostock. In particular, the novels *Tadellöser und Wolff*, *Aus großer Zeit*, and *Schöne Aussicht* have introduced the Hanseatic city of Rostock and the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to an audience of millions. Through the local setting of the novels’ plots on the one hand and the literary engagement with German social and intellectual history in the first half of the 20th century on the other, Rostock and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania become a panorama and setting for national remembrance culture. Since 1993, the writer Walter Kempowski has made part of his literary archive available to his hometown of Rostock. With the reopening of the exhibition (on the occasion of the conferral of an honorary doctorate by the University of Rostock in 2002) at Klosterhof 3, the rooms were designed according to the novel’s specific characteristics and the contexts of his works.
