Torgelow · 53.6179° N, 13.9992° E
Ukranenland - Historical Workshops

The Ukranenland Open-Air Museum is open from May through October, Tuesday through Friday, from 12:00 p.m.

m. to 4:00 p.m. It is a reconstruction of a 9th- and 10th-century Slavic settlement on the Uecker meadows on the outskirts of town. In the 9th and 10th centuries, the Northwest Slavic Ukranen people settled the Uecker lowlands, stretching from the lower Oder to the Zarow and from the Oderhaff to the Schorfheide. The settlement in the Uecker meadows of our Kirchheide—reconstructed based on archaeological finds and built with great diligence, perseverance, and historical knowledge by the members of the Ukranenland – Historische Werkstätten e.V. association—bears witness to their former way of life, their work, and their customs. Reconstructed Slavic boats named “Svantevit” and “Svarog” invite visitors to take historic river cruises on the Uecker. Visitors can try their hand at forging a knife blade, creating Slavic jewelry from clay, and playing on the historic playground with axe and stone throwing. Annual highlights include Easter (Easter Sunday and Monday) and the Museum Festival (the second weekend in August). Project days and school field trips are also available outside of the regular season.

The dedication of the Ukranenland – Historische Werkstätten e.V. association is evident in every detail of this unique site, which is a special destination in the inland region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Experience historic river cruises and try your hand at Slavic crafts

Particularly popular are the historic river cruises on the Uecker, which can be taken aboard the reconstructed Slavic boats “Svantevit” and “Svarog.” Those who want to get hands-on can forge their own knife blade, create Slavic jewelry from clay, or try their hand at axe and stone throwing on the historic playground. This makes Ukranenland a worthwhile family outing—even for guests visiting the Baltic Sea coast around Usedom or Greifswald.
