Torgelow Smelting Plant
The Torgelow Smelter Site is an industrial heritage center.
It is an industrial archaeology center dedicated to the first West Pomeranian blast furnace, built in 1754, which smelted the bog iron ore found in the surrounding area. Particularly worth seeing are the bell tower (circa 1790), former residential buildings (circa 1755)—the manager’s house and the “Vollgold” villa, the last surviving drinking water well of the former smelter, and the Uecker Lock (now a simple river weir).
Torgelow Ironworks – the first ironworks in Western Pomerania
The Torgelow Ironworks is one of the most remarkable industrial archaeological sites in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As early as 1754, the first blast furnace in Western Pomerania was built here to smelt the bog iron ore that was abundant in the surrounding area. Torgelow is located in the hinterland of the East Pomeranian Baltic Sea coast, not far from the island of Usedom, and thus connects the natural and cultural history of an entire region.
Historic Buildings and Remnants of Iron Smelting
Several historic structures have been preserved on the expansive grounds. Particularly worth seeing is the bell tower from around 1790, which once set the pace of work at the ironworks. Two former residential buildings date back to the early years of the works: the factor’s house and the “Vollgold” villa, both built around 1755. The complex is complemented by the smelter’s last surviving drinking water well and the historic Uecker Lock, which today serves as a simple river weir.

An early medieval settlement from the 12th/13th century can be visited in the "Castrum Turglowe". Two hotels, a guesthouse, a youth hostel and numerous vacation apartments invite you to stay for longer. There is also a water hiking rest area and a caravan parking area.
