Teutendorf Manor House
The manor house was built around 1800 by the von Flotow family in the Neoclassical style.
The foundations date back to the 15th century. After the political transition, the Floto family reacquired the manor house, which they had originally purchased from the von Flotow family in 1903 and which had been expropriated after 1945. In 2000, they had it faithfully restored in accordance with historic preservation guidelines. Thus, the round-arched vaults were restored on the old foundations and expanded for use in celebrations. Surrounded by a beautiful 8-hectare park with a chapel and pond (ca. 1800), the house is now used as a residence. It is the birthplace of Friedrich von Flotow, arguably the most significant composer from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Teutendorf Manor House – Neoclassicism on Historic Foundations
The Teutendorf Manor House is one of the most remarkable manor houses in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Built around 1800 by the von Flotow family in the Neoclassical style, the building rests on foundations dating back to the 15th century. Teutendorf is situated in the charming countryside between the Baltic Sea coast and the Mecklenburg Lake District, not far from cities such as Wismar and Rostock.
Birthplace of Friedrich von Flotow – A Prominent Composer from Mecklenburg
The manor house is the birthplace of Friedrich von Flotow, who is considered Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s most significant composer. This cultural and historical connection lends the estate a special appeal that extends far beyond the region.
Restoration in Accordance with Preservation Standards and Historic Vaults
After German reunification, the Floto family reacquired the estate—which had been expropriated after 1945—that they had originally purchased from the Flotows in 1903. In 2000, the manor house was renovated in accordance with historic preservation guidelines, remaining true to the original design. As part of this process, the old round-arched vaults were restored on their historic foundations and expanded to accommodate celebrations. Today, the house serves as a residence.
Park grounds with a chapel and pond dating from around 1800
The manor house is surrounded by a sprawling park of about eight hectares, which also dates from around 1800. A chapel and an idyllic pond characterize this atmospheric ensemble and make the estate an extraordinary testament to Mecklenburg’s manor culture.
