The Kulmeck Restaurant in the seaside resort of Heringsdorf is renowned for its excellent cuisine.

The Kulmeck Restaurant is one of the oldest and most renowned restaurants on the island of Usedom. Here, guests experience “a culinary lifestyle and casual, exquisite dining in an intimate atmosphere.” In January 2021, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. The service is described as “personal, warm, professional, and discreet,” and the dishes as “delicately accented and full of finesse.” From Wednesday through Saturday, finger foods, delicate appetizers, and light wines are served on the terrace in the afternoon, while outstanding 5- to 7-course meals are served in the evening. Top chef Tom Wickboldt took over the Kulmeck restaurant in 2020. Following a complete renovation, it reopened in October. Wickboldt had already brought the first Michelin star to the island of Usedom back in 2013. In the meantime, he also gained inspiration for his own restaurant while working as a private chef for a well-known German hard rock band, for whom he quickly conjured up both authentic haute cuisine and creative finger food.

In January 2021, the Kulmeck restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. Tom Wickboldt is no stranger to this league: As early as 2013, he brought the very first Michelin star to the island of Usedom. His dishes are considered delicately accented and full of finesse. Between his various positions, the chef also gained experience as a private chef for a well-known German hard rock band—mastering both haute cuisine and creative finger food in equal measure.

A Culinary Experience: From Terrace to Evening Menu

From Wednesday through Saturday, Kulmeck opens its terrace in the afternoon for finger food, delicate bites, and light wines. In the evening, guests can enjoy a multi-course menu featuring five to seven courses—an experience that brings the culinary delights of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania coastal region to life in a special way.

The Heringsdorf beach chair factory has a long tradition. The Heringsdorf beach chairs are still traditionally made by hand. In addition to beach chairs, indoor and outdoor furniture is also offered. There is a sales exhibition directly opposite the beach chair factory, which is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and on Saturdays by appointment.

The 508-meter-long pier was built in the Modernist style. Its steel-and-glass structures are unique, particularly the restaurant at the pier’s head, which looks like a UFO from a distance. The main building stands on land and is designed like a metropolitan arcade, featuring a café, bar, shops, and galleries. Vacationers can rent accommodations in the vacation apartments above. It is the only pier in the country that was built without any government subsidies. A dock for the spa boats is located at the bridgehead.

Venue of the Vorpommersche Landesbühne Since 1992, the Vorpommersche Landesbühne Anklam has been setting up the Red Tent every year during the summer season. It is located right on the beach promenade. Theater in a tent—unusual and charming at the same time—especially since this tent was designed specifically for theatrical performances. The interior is lined with red, velvety fabric. With a glass of water, wine, sparkling wine, or beer on the small cocktail table in front of you, you can enjoy the classics of world literature and modern literature, works by contemporary authors, comedies, farces, and cabaret. The atmosphere on stage is usually lighthearted. Mornings are always reserved for children and special plays tailored for them. Performances are presented by the ensemble of the Vorpommersche Landesbühne Anklam and students from the Theaterakademie Vorpommern. The Chapeau Rouge theater tent has become a cult favorite among islanders and visitors to Usedom. In winter, an artificial ice rink is set up on the square.
