Seebad Heringsdorf

The church in Heringsdorf belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Heringsdorf church owes its construction to the rapid development of seaside tourism on the island of Usedom in the 19th century. The Waldkirche in Bansin, completed in 1939, also owes its existence to seaside tourism. The church was built of traditional brick according to plans by Ludwig Persius, a student of Schinkel. Both Frederick William IV and many Heringsdorf residents, as well as wealthy guests from Berlin, were among the supporters of the church’s construction. The church was consecrated in September 1848 and was expanded and renovated in 1914.
