Atelier zur Katze in the Baltic seaside resort of Ahrenshoop

The Atelier zur Katze in the Baltic seaside resort of Ahrenshoop is a small but exquisite exhibition space that presents the works of artist Rainer Dörner. Ahrenshoop is located on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and has had a lively artistic tradition since the 19th century - the Atelier zur Katze fits harmoniously into the cultural heritage of the town.

Rainer Dörner - Painting on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst

The exhibition shows works by Rainer Dörner, whose work is closely linked to the special landscape of this coastal region. Anyone wishing to get to know the art scene on the Baltic coast - for example in the context of Stralsund, Greifswald or Rostock - will find Ahrenshoop a particularly authentic place where nature and fine art have been closely linked for generations.

Nature reserve in Ahrenshoop The Ahrenshooper Holz is a 55-hectare nature reserve with a particularly old tree population. The area was placed under protection on September 4, 1958 and has not been farmed since 1967 in order to protect the old beech forest with peaty areas and Europe's largest contiguous stand of holly. The Ahrenshooper Holz is also home to rare bird species such as stock dove, tawny owl and lesser spotted flycatcher as well as bats. The small wood has inspired landscape painters such as Alfred Partikel, Fritz Grebe and Elisabeth von Eicken. A hiking trail leads from the village road at the north-eastern end of the Baltic seaside resort of Ahrenshoop into the Ahrenshoop Wood.
