The church in Satow was rebuilt after the old church fell into disrepair. After the old church had fallen into disrepair, the first stones were brought to the building site for a new church in January 1864. The new church was built on the highest point near the vicarage.

The old Satow Church was built between 1219 and 1224 in the transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic architecture, making it the oldest example of ecclesiastical architecture in the region. The old Satow Church is one of the oldest structures in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The ruins of this early Gothic church are not only an impressive symbol of the Christian faith but also a stone testament to nearly 800 years of history. For centuries, it served as a spiritual and cultural center. Thanks to the restoration measures approved by the Satow municipality, the church ruins are being protected from further decay and transformed into an open-access monument to preserve this cultural and historical gem for future generations.
