Strasburg Local History Museum – City History in a Historic School Building

The Strasburg Local History Museum is located in one of the town’s oldest buildings: the half-timbered structure was built in 1760 as a school and has housed a remarkable collection on the town’s history and Huguenot heritage since 1975. Strasburg, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, lies in the hinterland of the Baltic Sea coast, between Greifswald and the Mecklenburg Lake District—and with this museum, it boasts a cultural gem that is well worth a visit for guests from across the region.

Huguenot history, tiled stoves, and an art clock made of straw

Among the special exhibits are two richly decorated tiled stoves from Strasburg potteries, which impressively demonstrate the artisanal tradition of the Wilhelminian era. A true rarity is a delicate art clock made of straw. Changing special exhibitions—two to three per year—highlight regional themes, including the life and work of boxing legend Max Schmeling, who was born in Klein Luckow, not far from Strasburg.
