Seebad Heringsdorf · Usedom · 53.9569° N, 14.1719° E
Heringsdorf Pier

The 508-meter-long pier was built in the Modernist style.

Its steel-and-glass structures are unique, particularly the restaurant at the pier’s head, which looks like a UFO from a distance. The main building stands on land and is designed like a metropolitan arcade, featuring a café, bar, shops, and galleries. Vacationers can rent accommodations in the vacation apartments above. It is the only pier in the country that was built without any government subsidies. A dock for the spa boats is located at the bridgehead.

Heringsdorf Pier – Modern Architecture Over the Baltic Sea

The pier in the seaside resort of Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom is one of the most striking structures on the German Baltic Sea coast. With a length of 508 meters, it juts far out into the Baltic Sea and captivates with its consistently modern design featuring steel and glass. Particularly striking is the restaurant at the head of the pier, which from a distance appears to hover over the water like a UFO.

Arcade, Café, Galleries, and Vacation Apartments Right by the Sea

The main building on land is designed as a spacious, metropolitan-style arcade and houses a café, a bar, shops, and galleries. The upper floors feature vacation apartments offering direct views of the Baltic Sea. As the only pier in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, it was financed entirely without public funding—a project unique in the region.

Boat dock for the Baltic Sea resort ships

At the head of the pier is a boat dock served by historic resort ships. From here, there are connections along the Usedom coast as well as to other destinations on the Baltic Sea. The pier is thus not only an architectural highlight but also a practical starting point for excursions on the water.
