Schmakentin Manor House

Late classicist manor house near the Hanseatic city of Wismar Schmakentin in Mecklenburg Gutsland near Wismar is older than all the Hanseatic towns in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and was 800 years old on June 11, 2017.

The late classicist manor house, which was heavily overbuilt and stripped of all ornamentation during the GDR era, is not a listed building. It was possible to prevent its destruction by purchasing it, and a non-profit association is working to restore it authentically and is committed to the preservation of ALL manor houses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The part of the park in front of the house and the apple orchard have been largely restored and completed. The interior has been carefully restored to the state of 1841, when the last owner bought the estate and successfully managed it until 1845. The association offers antiques in the foyer. The "Schmakentiner Riesen" (walnuts) and old apple varieties are well known.

Schmakentin Manor House - history in the Mecklenburg estate region

The Schmakentin manor house is located in the Mecklenburg Gutsland region near the Hanseatic city of Wismar and represents an important piece of regional history. The village of Schmakentin itself is older than all the Hanseatic towns in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2017. The late classicist manor house was heavily overbuilt during the GDR era and stripped of its original ornamentation. A non-profit association saved the building from decay by purchasing it and has been campaigning for the preservation of all manor houses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ever since.

Authentic restoration to the state of 1841

The interior of the manor house is being carefully restored to the state it was in in 1841, when the last owner acquired the estate and managed it until 1845. The park in front of the house and an apple orchard with old varieties have also been largely restored. The so-called "Schmakentiner Riesen" - particularly large walnuts that thrive on the estate - are also well-known. The association offers antiques for sale in the foyer.
