Schmakentin Manor House
● Schmakentin
Late classicist manor house near the Hanseatic city of Wismar
Schmakentin in Mecklenburg Gutsland near Wismar is older than all the Hanseatic towns in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and was 800 years old on June 11, 2017. The late classicist manor house, which was heavily overbuilt and stripped of all ornamentation during the GDR era, is not a listed building. It was possible to prevent its destruction by purchasing it, and a non-profit association is working to restore it authentically and is committed to the preservation of ALL manor houses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The part of the park in front of the house and the apple orchard have been largely restored and completed. The interior has been carefully restored to the state of 1841, when the last owner bought the estate and successfully managed it until 1845. The association offers antiques in the foyer. The "Schmakentiner Riesen" (walnuts) and old apple varieties are well known.
