Strandbad Plötzenhöhe - guarded EU bathing area on Lake Plau
The Plötzenhöhe lido in Plau am See is located on the western shore of Lake Plau in the Plötzenhöhe district, not far from the pier. As an EU-registered bathing area (no. 60), it is one of the most important and intensively managed bathing waters for tourists in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The water quality is regularly checked by the health department of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. Current results can be viewed on the online bathing water map at www.badewasser-mv.de.
Facilities and offers at the Plötzenhöhe lido
The bathing area boasts a large sunbathing lawn, a playground and a shallow shore area - ideal for families with children. The bathing area is secured by buoys. A spacious jetty with boat hire, sanitary facilities, a parking lot and a snack bar complete the offer. From June to September, a lifeguard ensures the safety of bathers. If you want to explore the lake landscape of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern away from the well-known Baltic Sea beaches of Rügen, Usedom or Fischland-Darß-Zingst, you will find an attractive inland alternative here.

Castle tower Plau am See
📍 Plau am See
The castle tower in Plau was built in 1448/49 and is still completely preserved. The 3 m thick walls and the 11 m deep dungeon, as well as the tower ascent, amaze locals and guests alike when they visit. The historic castle tower in Plau am See is the remaining part of a fortification that was built in 1449 to stop the raids of Brandenburg knights. During the Thirty Years' War, it offered protection against sieges and raids by the Swedes and Saxons. At the end of the war, the decision was made to "grind down" the fortifications, which meant dismantling them. Only the castle tower was spared this fate. Until 1985, the tower was not used and was open to everyone, which was particularly pleasing for the children of Plau, who had great adventures. In 2000, the Museum Friends of Plau am See also set themselves the task of renovating the tower and making it attractive for visitors.
