The bronze statue “The Victor” in Plau am See is one of the most remarkable works of art in the inland region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The renowned sculptor Professor Wilhelm Wandschneider designed the figure in 1905. It depicts a victor holding a laurel wreath in his left hand—the classic symbol of triumph. Originally, the bronze statue served as a prize for the winner of the Schwerin rowing regatta.

Just one year after its creation, the bronze figure was awarded the gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition of 1906—a significant achievement for Wandschneider, the artist born in Plau am See. A cast replica of the work was produced in 1934. It was originally located at the “Zuruf” before the statue was moved to the sailing harbor in Plau am See in 1960, where it can still be seen today. In 2001, the bronze was carefully restored.
