Also on display are a furnished kitchen, where great-grandmother used to cook, as well as the bedroom and living room, which contain numerous everyday objects from the Roaring Twenties. The GDR era is also documented through numerous artifacts. Opening hours of the local history room: Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Closed on holidays. The reading room is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Kühlungsborn Local History Museum – History of a Baltic Sea Resort
The Kühlungsborn Local History Museum is located right next to the Visitor Center and takes visitors on a journey through the history of this well-known Baltic Sea resort in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The focus is on the development of the resort industry in the three towns of Fulgen, Arendsee, and Brunshaupten, which were merged into the municipality of Kühlungsborn on April 1, 1938.
Everyday Life in Past Decades on the Baltic Coast
In addition to local history, the lovingly designed exhibition offers insights into the everyday life of earlier generations. A furnished kitchen, a bedroom, and a living room convey the spirit of the Roaring Twenties. Numerous everyday objects bring the era to life—much like in other local history museums along the Baltic Sea coast, such as in Rostock, Wismar, or on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The era of the GDR is also documented through authentic artifacts, rounding out the picture of the town.
Reading room at the Kühlungsborn Local History Museum
The permanent exhibition is complemented by a dedicated reading room, which is open several days a week and invites visitors to quietly explore regional topics. The Heimatstube is therefore recommended not only for history buffs but also for anyone who would like to get to know Kühlungsborn and its roots better.
