Local history room of the Warbelstadt Gnoien
When the Gnoien Heritage Society was founded in 1993, there was also a desire to set up a small museum of local history for our town.
At the founding meeting, a working group on this topic was immediately formed. Thanks to the tireless work of master tailor Alfred Brehm, it was possible to open a museum of local history in 1995, the year of Mecklenburg's 1000th anniversary. Since then, it has been possible to bring together a great deal of information which has been saved from oblivion. Residents of Gnoien, but also Gnoieners living abroad, have allowed the collection in the Heimatstube to grow steadily. Every item is gratefully accepted, even as a loan. Many interesting exhibits can be discovered, e.g. Theodor Erbler's Russian dancing boots from the 1930s, various hairdressing utensils, old tools, old pictures and much more. Since the move to the larger premises, special exhibitions can be shown at regular intervals. In addition to children's books and toys, linen and handicrafts, there has also been an exhibition on woodworking craftsmen and the newspaper industry in our town. Exhibition "Gnoien life around 1900" - living and lifestyle from times gone by Exhibition "Traditional crafts / Forgotten crafts" Exhibition on GDR history - "GDR everyday life in text, pictures and objects" Around 4,000 visitors have visited the Heimatstube so far. Many guests come from the old federal states (former Gnoien residents). Visitors have even come from the USA to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors. All this can be read in the guest book. The town hall is the seat of the municipal administration and the tourist information office. The Warbelstadt Gnoien, a small and beautiful farming town in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with around 3000 inhabitants, invites guests from the federal states and all over the world. The town of Gnoien is surrounded on three sides by the Warbel, a small picturesque river. Let yourself be inspired by the unique historical town center, listen to the centuries-old history and visit venerable witnesses of the past such as the Gothic parish church St. Marien, the town hall in neo-Renaissance style, the Grand Ducal office building, the Imperial Post Office or the technical monument, the hundred-year-old water tower. We invite you to linger, enjoy and relax in one of the most beautiful regions of our country, Mecklenburg Switzerland. The town hall was built on the foundations of a previous building in the New Renaissance style in 1898. The first floor was plastered ashlar. Brick was used on the upper floor. After around 100 years, the house was given a much-needed facelift and is now a real gem in the town. A coat of arms embellishes the front of the house. Architectural style/construction: New Renaissance The market square is not only home to the town hall, but also the oldest house in Gnoien: the former Gasthaus zur Börse. The parish church was already built in the 13th century. The old town center features narrow cobblestone streets and restored residential and commercial buildings, many of which are listed buildings. The windmill, located on the edge of the town, houses a restaurant. Former Grand Ducal District Court: The building was built in 1880 as a district court in the neoclassical style. Refugees were housed here after 1945. After renovations, the regional outpatient clinic moved in in 1952. The Gnoien district court has been based here since 1992. The two-storey plaster building with a central risalit and two flat triangular gables has been restored. Visitors to the Warbel town of Gnoien can find the town information center directly in the town hall building on the market square. Here you will not only receive comprehensive advice and support, but also information on leisure activities, restaurants and accommodation, information material, guided tours and souvenirs of the town
