The Carinerland Atelier in Garvensdorf invites you to enjoy a peaceful artistic experience away from the major Baltic Sea resorts. This small studio showcases paintings created using various techniques—a serene contrast to the lively hustle and bustle of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania coast.

The exhibited works are created using a variety of painting techniques and offer a glimpse into the region’s artistic scene. Anyone traveling through the inland area between Rostock and Stralsund will find a welcome opportunity here to discover the cultural side of the state—far from the beach and the pier.

Garvensdorf is located in Carinerland, a largely unknown landscape in the hinterland of the Baltic Sea coast. We at the Gutshaus Garvensdorf Association bring people together through our work. Our film screenings attract not only local residents—vacationers also come here to enjoy unique films that are off the beaten path. In 2022, our association was even awarded the M-V Cinema Culture Prize for its wonderful annual program. About the history of the house: Since its construction around 1830 in the original Neoclassical style, the Garvensdorf manor house has had an eventful history. Owners changed frequently, and with them the appearance of the house, depending on the tastes of the time and financial resources—whether neo-Gothic turrets, GDR-style concrete plaster, or solar panels. After the expropriation of the last lord of the manor, von Platen, in 1945, the house housed refugees and later a kindergarten, the country doctor, and the municipal administration; a cinema and cultural hall were established. After 1989, the manor house unfortunately stood empty. Since 1995, we have been operating the manor house as the Gutshaus Garvensdorf Association. In our small but charming cinema, we screen films that aren’t necessarily shown in the big multiplexes—films with deeper messages, thought-provoking films, and wonderful documentaries. We also host several art festivals and other events here. So stay tuned! Please note that the manor house is only open for events.
