Mirow village church
One of the earliest neo-Gothic churches with a particularly elegant design.
Rare pulpit altar and Runge organ in the interior. The church in Mirov was built between 1842 and 1845 on the foundations of its medieval predecessor. This makes it one of the earliest neo-Gothic churches and is also considered a particularly high-quality and perfectly formed example of neo-Gothic architecture in the Schwerin region. There are two bells in the tower, whose flat roof no longer corresponds to its original pointed state. One comes from the previous church, while the second was cast in Wismar in 1845. The pulpit altar is rather unusual for a Mecklenburg church. The altarpiece depicts the "Disciples of Emmaus" and is a copy of a painting from the Georgenkirche in Parchim. As in many Lewitz churches, an organ by organ builder Runge can also be heard in Mirow.
Mirow village church in Banzkow - an early neo-Gothic masterpiece
The village church of Mirow in the Mirow district of the municipality of Banzkow is one of the most remarkable sacred buildings in the Schwerin region. It was built between 1842 and 1845 on the foundations of its medieval predecessor and is considered one of the earliest neo-Gothic churches in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Its perfectly formed construction clearly sets it apart from comparable village churches in the region.
Pulpit altar and historic bells in the Mirower church
In the interior, the pulpit altar catches the eye - a rather unusual design for Mecklenburg churches. The altarpiece depicts the "Disciples of Emmaus" and is a copy of a work from the Georgenkirche in Parchim. Two bells hang in the tower: one is from the previous building, the other was cast in Wismar in 1845. The fact that the organ was made by organ builder Runge connects the church with many other places of worship in the Lewitz region.
Sacred architecture between Schwerin and the Baltic coast
If you want to explore the cultural landscape of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern away from the well-known Baltic Sea destinations such as Rostock, Wismar or Stralsund, you will find a quiet but architecturally significant testimony to regional church architecture from the first half of the 19th century in the village church of Mirow.
