Wolf trapping facility Zwenzow
Wolf trapping facility Zwenzow - An informative place about the life of wolves and how they are dealt with in the region.
There is a wolf trapping pit at the Großer Labussee lake near the village of Zwenzow near Wesenberg. When 22 sheep were killed by wolves in a stable in Userin in 1710, this wolf trap was built. After the wolves were exterminated, the pit fell into disrepair and has now been restored as a historical site. However, it is now so shallow that no animal can be caught in it. The pit has a diameter of around 4 meters and was originally so deep that no trapped wolf could escape from it. There is a pole in the middle of the pit to which bait was attached. Live chickens were also used as bait. The pit was then covered with brushwood, grasses and tree bark so that no wolf could get suspicious. If a passing wolf caught the scent of the bait, it tried to catch it. It then fell into the pit and was unable to get out. It was now easy for the farmers to kill the wolf. Interesting facts about wolves and their life in the region are listed on various information boards.
